"Ramblin' Fever" 1978 GMC Street Coupe

Wanted to wait for the build sheet from GM Heritage before starting a build thread so I could confirm it was in fact a "Street Coupe" package truck. Got that via e-mail today and it is in fact a Z77 Street Coupe. 2wd short fleet.

Picked this up from Squarebody Central in Edinburg VA last week. I was browsing FB Marketplace for a decent seat for my 70 C10 and happened across the truck. I had heard of all sorts of different GM sticker package trucks in the 70's, but hadn't heard of a Street Coupe before. I instantly fell in love. Tried to talk a GMC friend into buying it, but he didn't like red interiors. Then tried to talk my brother-in-law into snatching it up, but he's looking for another 4WD. I love the red on red and tacky 70's stripes, so she came home with me.

Truck was originally solid Cardinal Red with red interior, which seems even more rare as all the other red ones I've seen were two tone Cardinal Red on top and Carmine Red on bottom. 350/350 combo with A/C. Carpet and Sierra Grande interior with aluminum dash and gauge trim. I'm not sure what "SRR" means on the axle code, but it's a 3.07 diff. Plain Jane rally rims, even thought they're not listed on the build sheet unless I'm overlooking them.

Body is meh. Someone replaced the original doors and fenders with OE fenders off a maroon truck at some point. I'm not seeing any factory mirror holes though, which seems weird to me. Had the small sport mirrors originally as the original owner left one in the truck and he cut it off the original door. Bed floor and crossmembers are shot, bed sides aren't horrible, but not great either. Hood is ripped at the normal crease point, and the cab corners and rockers have typical rot, though not as bad as some I've seen. Tailgate doesn't seem horrible either.

Original owner had installed a CB at some point, drilled a hole through the cab and bed header panel to run the cable to a whip antenna mounted on the bed rail. I'm hoping to start blowing the truck apart for a refurbish soon. Not going for concourse restoration, just a clean fun cruiser. Also ordered an old hat from the dealership it was sold at. LOL!
