Well there is living in the past and then there is "living in the past".

All I'll say about the Cyber truck is that the money spent to design and build them would have far better been spent building a reliable delivery van that was all electric for inner city and urban deliveries. If you are in a fairly congested area the streets are full of delivery rigs every morning that make noise and put out a lot of exhaust. Some may not do 20 miles a day but make 50 deliveries every day in that 20 miles. That is where the focus on electric should be rather than on luxary toys.

The cyber truck looks like a HVAC shop put together a truck drawn by a child, but I'm hopeful it will do for electric trucks what the early Telsa cars did for the electric car market - create one. I'm starting to see quite a few locally.
But my confidence in the founder has slipped a tad the last couple years.

I also see quite a few GM BrightDrop vans locally too, despite hearing they are not selling well.

I like the concept of smaller EVs, the slate truck concept has some appeal

I think it was 1984 when a buddy and I first went to Mopar Nationals. So many Hemi cars...so much eye candy. We checked into hotel that happened to be the hosting hotel when I heard the baddest sounding engine ever. It sounded like a top fueler idling though the parking lot. I ran to look out the window and started laughing. It was a hotel worker pushing a metal wheeled trash dumpster across the parking lot. First time I saw a cyber-truck I had a flashback to yhat moment.

Every time i rolldown the windows in my 54 i think of several of my passengers who either don't know how to operate crank windows or never seen them before. seen some actually tapping on the crank handle thinking it was the switch to open the window. I'd rather live in the past where common sense was a given and not a luxury.

All of my trucks including the 71 and both 77 trucks have manual windows. It bugs my wife when when we go in one of the trucks but she grew up with hand crank windows.

To me the concept of "living in the past" has far more to do with the individual than the vehicle though. We all know that guy who never mentally grew from the day he graduated from or left school and all of his line of thinking still goes to back then and what went on back then. Car wise it is probably the 70 + year old walking around a rod trop with the pack of camels rolled into the sleeve of his white T shirt wearing Levi jeans and boots that probably aren't all that comfortable for being one's feet for a length of time.

The build for my 48 is going to be set in the late 50's early 60's visible parts and ornament wise with white walls and hub caps rather than custom wheels and no visible later. That doesn't mean that I am going to wear a costume when I drive it though. Nvrdone will tell you that you usually see me in a rod trot or AD truck T shirt unless it is hot then I might have a loose button down shirt on.

In the past half the fun was parts and labor seemed reasonable and almost a no brainer even if both suppliers and shops had a hand out for payment. Now it seems you need to carefully consider each aquisiton/service as everyone now has BOTH hands out - and cupped!!!

I've been teaching my 19 year old granddaughter to drive, her test is in a week. She has grown up with me and all of my cars and loves to help around the shop, when she can.

Last week, while driving on a local interstate, we came upon a Cybertruck and she said it best "Pappy that truck is just plain fugly". I laughed hard, but had to agree.

Every time i'm in my 54 i get a brief reminder of being 19 again. The view, feel of the wheel and seat, the sound and smell of the engine and cab and ride all pleasant reminders of the past.

I had a wake up call today. I was rolling up the street in my HHR =retro box with wheels . and coming down the street was a fridge white Silverado electric truck.

Not a fugly as the cyber truck but 80K would build a nice shop to play in rather than driving a truck that ran up my electric bill.

I still say the focus on electric should be on small delivery vans for cities and urban areas where a bunch of gas or diesel burning delivery vans make a lot of noise and puke out a lot of exhaust while working their way around the area dropping off deliveries.

Tonight I had the opportunity to live in the past. Dr's released me and say I can drive again so I went to a local car show. It was great to drive the pickup, smell the fresh air mixed with the smell of exhaust and oil. And smoke the tires a couple of times !!!
