Anyone use vinyl paint?

I need to get sun visors and a dash pad for my truck. My color scheme is going to be dark olive exterior and interior, with gray tahoe seats with charcoal and black tmi door panels, and black/chrome gauges. I'm thinking charcoal gray would look best for the dash pad and visors. Rather than buying new ones however, I thought about just painting over used ones of a different color with vinyl paint to save a buck, but only if it looks good. Has anyone used it? Does it rub or flake off? Does it look cheap?

Thanks-

Buy SEM paint, works really well. I redid all the interior of my 96 Impala about 6 years ago and still holding good.

Agree with all of the above. You should have zero issues with those low wear pieces. I did a whole bench seat almost 9 years ago, and most of it still looks great, but some has worn off on the driver’s side where my butt is sliding across getting in and out.

Re: Anyone use vinyl paint?

The key behind successful dyeing and/or color changing is cleaning and proper prep.
Everything needs a good scrubbing with Dawn Dish soap. The vinyl part, such as the visors, dash lad and armrest will need prepped with SEM Vinyl Prep.
Plastic parts use the Plastic Prep.
SEM Adhesive Promoter also for the plastic parts before dye.

I scrubbed all my parts with simple green and then let air dry, I did not use any promoter or anything special.

Re: Anyone use vinyl paint?

Don't remember the brand, but I used some on my 69's armrests. The color is starting to wear off, but it's probably been 20+ years.

I probably need to order some SEM Vinyl Coat. Their products in general are first rate.

Here's a color chart:

Re: Anyone use vinyl paint?

I had used a vinyl paint on boat seats over 3 decades ago. Could not believe it killed the mold in the seat cover and 4 or more coats covered it.

They felt soft and stayed that way out in the sun in Florida till we sold it. They were white in color and used a white vinyl paint. Unbelievable product.
