Genuine AC Delco HEI Ignition module

Just looking to carry a spare, anyone know if these are the classic real deal or if they're just some foreign make with the brand name?

I search high and low and found nothing. I did find a "NOS" on ebay, I was skeptical but when i received it looked correct. Just need to be cautious of the seller.

Yea I was checking out Amazon and I know there have been reports of counterfeit items that you have to be leery of and I guess maybe I'm just being overly cautious.

RockAuto is listing an AC Delco Ignition Control Module P/N:....D1906....$42.99.
I used parameters for a '76 C/10 w/292 L6, but they're the same, V8 or L6. I double checked, and got the same P/N and price for a 350.

Oh wow, guess I already have a spare or two and one is a GM, the other is a TRANSPO, whoever that is.

Well that just saved me $50.

Once I bought a ACCEL module because I wanted to be the king of the racetrack or something and I heard a faint crack as I installed it.

Two months later found me on the side of the road reinstalling the original.

I use Davis Unified Ignition HEI module and keep a spare in the glovebox. MUCH better than stock. I switched between stock and DUI modules on back-to-back road tests and gained very noticeable throttle response and acceleration with the DUI module.

Unless the OEM/AC Delco one is from the mid-1970s or older it won't be any better than the random unreliable aftermarket ones. Even good old used ones are pretty reliable.

I looked for one for quite a while and came up with nothing. I tried a Pertronix version which has worked well for 2+ years. I now always keep a spare with me though as I went through 4 of them in about 2-3 years prior. Luckily I bought one with a lifetime warranty, but replacing a bad one with another one that will fail before too long is still a PITA, which is why I tried Pertronix and seem to have landed on a positive solution.

I also had trouble finding a quality harness for the module. My original fell apart due to age and the plastic going brittle. I finally found an aftermarket one but the plug housing cracked in half when I plugged it in! They can be hard to find too. I think I ended up with a Proform copy, but again it is somewhat fragile so you need to be careful with it.

Yea I somehow got onto a bunch of YouTube videos and the Pertronix units seem to be getting good reviews and comments.

Much as I hate to admit it, at my age and beer gut size, along with my SBC sitting in the IL-6 position, I kind of envy the F**d V-8 distributor location.

I definitely like where Ford put the distributor on their V8s. I owned several Fords and that sure made messing with points so much easier.

When the HEI was introduced most dealership mechanics were about 5’7” and weight about 165lbs ! Very limber and payed to climb into the engine compartment ! All part of the job description.

No problem Sam! I was running a fairly new GM OEM HEI distributor (93440806, Taiwan) when its coil failed after a year or so. After researching, I went with a DUI-240001BK 50KV cap/coil kit with burn-through resistant brass terminal rotor and DUI-000222 module from Summit. Re-gapped the plugs to 0.054" due to the much stronger spark. I liked the new DUI module so much I got one for my brother's '69 Chevelle SS 396 w/Accel HEI. It woke up his engine too. Along with Performance Distributors (DUI), Pertronix also has their Flamethrower D2000 HEI module if folks are looking for a relatively cheap performance mod.

Since HEI was released back in '75, technology has improved over the years but the OEM specs of stock modules sold today are likely based on the original GM design, regardless of application & cam. Case in point: GM calls for the same 4-pin ACDelco D1906 module in '74 454 V8 Corvettes and '84 250 Straight-6 C10s, same timing curve, dwell, energy, but completely different engine characteristics. I must be the exception to the rule, because I've probably had 10-12 HEI distributors over the years with modules from GM, Accel, and MSD, and I've never had one fail.

But anyway, I recently bought this spare USA-made GM module from Rock Auto. Could be very old NOS that R/A got from a GM dealer or parts store inventory.

Guilty as charged, but 5' 9-1/2". Of course, getting married and then a desk job destroyed my lean figure.
