Picked up a 68 c10 short step project yesterday

Picked up this 68 short step yesterday. Never been messed with, was a transport company yard truck. Inline 6 and 3 speed. I am planning on adding front discs but don't know if I should get a kit and stay 6 lug or swap a later model complete k member with discs? Square body parts are pretty easy to get here. What years work best? Also will be lowered and LS swapped.

Nice find!

I like the 6-lug with truck rallys, good luck?

Nice truck, I would convert to five lug. Stock parts or conversion.

Yes it will be converted to 5 lug. Plenty of square body parts around here. Looking at an'84 rolling frame on Friday.
Here's the SPID

Since you are lowering I would forget about the square body crossmember and just go with a 5 bolt kit with lowering spindles.

The truck looks to be in great shape, have you looked under the floor mat at the floor? Feel free to look at my build...but mine was pretty rusted and needed lots of metal work.

Welcome to the club!

I picked up a 84 square body frame today for $300. 5 lug discs, power steering box and pump and 4 rally wheels. I think I will swap the complete crossmember, and add the dropped spindles from a square body. I did a '62 C10 this way several years ago.

Re: Picked up a 68 c10 short step project yesterday

There are both a heavy duty disc and light duty disc version of the square body parts. I would have no problem using the square parts for a conversion, but I would not want to use the lighter duty version.

The HD setup should use same rotors and calipers as a 71-72 which are 1 1/4” thick. I think the lighter duty setup just an inch?
