Sport Mirror Disassembly

Sport Mirrors - Is there a way to get the mirror out of the arm base? I was thinking to have my mirror bases re-chromed, but I'd need to remove the mirror and reinstall after chrome plating, as the mirror part is stainless. Anyone on here done that?

It is possible, but be prepared to whisper sweet nothings to that mirror while gently prying it out. One wrong move and it’s shattered dreams and finger cuts.

Re: Sport Mirror Disassembly

You could probably buy reproduction mirrors for half of what it will cost to replate yours.

Re: Sport Mirror Disassembly

When I bought a 71 GMC it had about a dozen holes drilled into the doors for who knows how many different styles of mirrors. I located a set of original sport mirrors for it , after installing them I realized why all the holes. Sport mirrors look great but are pretty useless for actual everyday driving in my opinion, especially the passenger side.
