Rear view mirror glue
I have used permatex twice on my rear view mirror. It has lasted about 3-4 years and then fallen off when accidentally bumped. Anyone use something that has lasted several years. I am using the original metal tab to the glass. Would a plastic one work better? What has worked best for others?

Re: Rear view mirror glue
Visit a local auto glass installer. Have them glue it for you. Bet it wont cost much. Mine does not even charge for it

Re: Rear view mirror glue
I used the Permatex as well. It just fell off again in the 100* heat we are having. The truck sits in the sun all day long. It lasted just a few months. I had the glass shop glue the one in my other truck. It's been a few years, but the truck is in the garage. They charged me $20.

Re: Rear view mirror glue
Make sure you clean both the glass and the button really well before you install. I've had them not last long at all, and I've had them last for decades. I think it's just pure luck sometimes.

Re: Rear view mirror glue
I cheated after finding a Spectrum rear view mirror at Pull-a-Part. The Spectrum looked like some kind of Chevy rebrand of a small foreign car. The car mirror was attached to the overhead roof which was a nice fit with the double wall roof on my 75. Bonus, the color was a match.

Re: Rear view mirror glue
I tried super glue once and when it got knocked off it took a chunk of glass with it. There is such a thing as sticks too good.

Re: Rear view mirror glue
Permatex extreme strength is what I tried this time around. My 79 sits in the direct sun all year long. I switch to a Saturn Vue rear view mirror that has temp and compass in the display. So this mirror might have a little more weight to it then a standard mirror. If this one falls off this time I will probably go to a automotive glass place and have a then do it. Although my current front windshied has a giant crack in the passenger side and two rock chips in it. I need to replace it sometime soon.

Re: Rear view mirror glue
Prep makes a big difference.
I buy the button with the 3M tape and remove the tape so I have a nice clean new button to work with. I buy the Permatex glue with the primer towelette.
