AAC carpet fit with in cab tank fiasco

I have a 72 C10 inside the cab tank. I received my new carpet and it's too long and doesn't stop at the tank. Several inches too long. Sent OAC pictures and they forwarded to AAC and they said it looked like a carpet for a cab with remote tank. They sent another one and it's the same. AAC says to slip it under the thank as that's how they're made. That's bs and I'm definitely not going to do that. Why would they call it a carpet for an in cab tank? OAC wants a restock charge, I lose my initial freight, and have to pay return freight. For those of you that have ordered for an inside tank did the carpet stop at the tank like it should? My old carpet stops right there. Going back and forth and getting nowhere. You can only talk to the receptionist at AAC and she will put you on hold and come back with the wrong answer. They won't give out any measurements. Really pissed.

Here's my AAC carpet I installed in May of this year. The caveat is that it was ordered in 2022 and sat around in it's box the whole time.

I’m not sure, but the one I got from lmc went from back wall to front.
And I installed the tank over it. Looks good to me.

I bought the AAC carpet from Rock Auto earlier last January for my 71 C10 in cab tank. I installed a two months ago and it fit perfectly.

I did for my 72 with in tank. Purchased around Jan 2025. It has a finished edge at base of tank. Jack cover, part of tank cover, moved back so you can see. I am also using ther tank cover. But you can see the edge of floor carpet. Sorry a little tight for a picture. Shot from passenger side down the back side of seat.

My ACC mass backed carpet for the in cab tank is just as PbFut and jumpsoffrock mentioned and I can vouch for how it is finished hemmed up to the gas tank base.
I did have to slightly trim the carpet at the door sills.
However my ACC carpeted tank cover needed trimming on the bottom and I tucked it neatly under the rear hemmed carpet.
The extra trimmed tank carpet was used to fill in the left and right corner pocket areas (under the gas fill tube and the jack storage corner) for a nice finished look.
Again my picture doesn’t show it very well but the finished rear hem meets the tank.

Unless you are not pulling your carpet up the firewall far enough, it is obvious you have a "no cab tank" carpet. Also their customer service is lacking because they won't fix the situation or give you measurements(for some odd reason).


Normally I'd say install it and forget about it but I never thought of you having the tank in the truck already. I'm not saying it's a horrible job, but I wouldn't be happy paying for carpet and being surprised with the fact I mist unbolt and pry my tank up so I can stuff 4" of carpet under the tank--4" that shouldn't exist.

I would also be irked that they are so blind to the simple error: they sent you the wrong stuff.


Either that or maybe they discontinued the in cap tank carpet and send everyone the longer version.


My point is you've tried a few different avenues and it seems as though you're stuck. I understand the frustration.

There are many variations depending on trans hump and auto or floor shift.
I am not familiar whoever OAC is but they sent you the wrong carpet product.
I suggest you check the product label, part numbers on the original ACC shipping box and cross reference. What does your shipping and your order paperwork/receipt show?
Here are some ACC part numbers for reference.
I know this is a hassle but I would be diligent and make them correct their mistake.
I hope you can rectify this.

Sam, I ordered a 1894 with mass backing for low hump, 3 speed on the column and in cab gas tank. Order correct and label on box correct. This is 2 in a row. OAC is just another distributor for AAC. When you order they have AAC ship direct. It's AAC's fault and they won't talk to you and refer you back to OAC. I'm sure not dropping this issue. It's like dealing with 5 year olds.

I think I would just roll the end of the rug under and tuck it under the tank and end all the aggravation..
Doubt you would be able to see it.

Quite frankly I felt the same way at the beginning of howzits saga.

But when I installed my carpet/factory tank in May, I discovered I had fit the carpet too far back.
How did I find that out? The tank was sitting on the last inch of carpet and this moved the bolt holes in the tank just enough where most of them didn't line up and this drove me nuts for an hour until I realized I had created my own problem, fixed the carpet position, and the tank bolted in.
That's my first reason to support his gripe.


My second is that he paid dayum good money to accept a carpet specifically for in-cab tanks, and when he told them that they'd simply sent the wrong one they told him to kick rocks or pay his own money to ship that huge AAC box back to them, for THEIR mistake.


Getting messed over is frustrating enough, but basically being told you gotta pay to fix it is on another level.

Imagine getting the wrong burger and having a receipt to prove you ordered something different, and being told you have to pay a return fee to give it back, and on top of that you have to wait another 20 minutes for your originally ordered burger because you are now at the back of the line again.

I completely understand his frustration.

I have removed parts from old vehicles and tried reinstalling them 15 minutes later and had the worst time of my life making it fit. It can be frustrating enough to make things go back where they went, and sometimes that extra 3/8" of carpet can misalign the holes enough to ruin your afternoon--turn a 2 hour job into a 5 hour job and lots of frustration. And it wasn't even your fault.

ACC began having major issues during the pandemic along with loosing several key employees that began resulting in customers receiving incorrectly made carpets. Complaints became basically impossible to resolve so we ourselves finally had to quit offering the carpet. Large hump carpets shipped as low hump and the same mixup on with and without tanks. When you can get the actual correct version you need they fit great. But if the ACC label says it's a low hump in cab tank carpet and you get a high hump version for models without i cab tank convincing them that the carpet inside box is other than what they labeled was virtually impossible.
Great product though when you get the product ordered.
