Adding a splash of color.

After 2+ years I decided it was time to go back to Chevy orange. Don't get me wrong I loved the all black. But it's hard to beat chevy orange. Tell me want you think.

I developed an assembly information kit for restoring my truck from nuts and bolts. It's written in Assy. order, short & simple, packed with all OEM hardware ID; castings; part ID; 100s of part numbers; wiring simple - Resource, and trivial too.

Much info. applies to all 67-72 GM, A/C vehicles, esp. trucks W/O saying. Full search ability, including to 700+ images of illus., parts, charts, Assy., points of interest, cab, bed, & front clip cart plans- Specials and cores were serviced out and R excluded e.g. front/rear glass, body/paint, engine core, rebuilt hinges, steering box, trans, etc.

The project was in-line with long former professions developing process, policy, specs, demo, written for novices, admin., policy, engineers, development, systems & test - Public & govt 2, gross. Sell soft copy cheaply, PM if interested.

Nice contrast with the dark green.

In Model Year 1963, the L25 292 L6 debuted. The first [and maybe 2nd year] 292s were factory painted Alpine Green. [Similar to today's Detroit Diesel Green]. L6 250s were painted a dark blue. [IDK about 230s -- never seen a real one.] In 1967 ALL GM engines were painted Chevy Engine Orange.
I have a 1963 292 core, I may rebuild for my 1967 K/10 Suburban. The block is still green. If I do rebuild it for the [white] Sub, I will repaint it Detroit Diesel Green.

Sounds like a cool color combo. Would this rebuild count towards your 25 year quota?

F0607XAE has been running in the '68 C/10 Stepside for 20 years [2005].
So it still has 5000 to go. It was the block that was in the truck when I bought it in 1973.
In 1977, I built up a junkyard L25 block, '67 -- F0606UH, and ran that 25 years [250,000 miles].
And I put the XAE parts up in some Avionics crates I stole from the shop. When I opened up that stuff in 2002 -- 25 years later -- they were still shiny, like Tutanhkamen's gold sarcophagus. That leant a whole ''Mummy'' theme to that build. Naturally it was going to be in Chevy Engine Orange. A redder shade than the Stepside's exterior 516 Orange.
In 2002, it was blowing blue smoke on accelerating, running on 4 cylinders and eating a quart of SAE 50 weight every 1000 miles, so I started rebuilding XAE.[A very rare and untraceable stamp number. Not on anybody's charts. Possibly a Dealer Warranty replacement engine. IDK.]
If I rebuild the '67 block, it's already run 250K at .030-over, I may open it up to .060-over. That's 301 CI or 5 Liter.

The 1963 core is one I picked up extra from a guy at Checker Auto for $100. Block stamped F0111UH -- from memory.
Besides being Green, not Orange, the '63 292s had a six-lobed crank, not the 12 lobes that evolved by '68. While 12 lobes are better balanced, the six lobes could be shaved to knife thru the oilpan sump oilbath better -- less resistance. Old HotRodders' trick.

Re: Adding a splash of color.

Good stuff! - thanks for the history! I only had one straight 6...a 194 in a '64 Chevy II 2-door hardtop. That thing would knock and make noise, letting me know it was time for another couple o' quarts. I couldn't kill it.

My brother and I inherited our dad's '56 210 2-door with a 235 with a 'slip & slide'. He would NOT let us drop a 327 & T10 in it - wanted to keep it stock, so that's how it sits today.
