Brake Distribution Block -v- Proportioning Valve

Having just upgraded my truck with front disc brakes, I had to change the Drum/Drum Distribution Block over to the Disc/Drum Proportioning Valve.
A couple weeks ago I’m at a Show and talking to a guy that did the upgrade on his 69, but kept the Distribution Block. He said it works fine.
I don’t know how?
Anyway, I wasn’t gonna argue with him, but it just threw me for a loop.
Any insight from the expert on here?
Maybe it’ll be useful info for somebody else doing the upgrade on their truck.
