Original GM or Repro Doors Question

I'm looking at doors.

I've seen a pair of 73-76 where the front edge of the door is not folded over flat, but instead is 90 degrees, beginning about halfway down the door. It's like that all the way to the bottom. And only the front edge, on both doors. I'm told they are original, but I'm not sure. They look like they would be GM replacements or repros, because they are black coated.

I have a pair of 77-up repros where the edges are completely folded over.

And I have a definite original 73-76 (red oxide primer inside) that is folded over. But that door has had a lot of bad body work done to it.

Can you tell if a door is GM (factory line or replacement) or repro based on whether the flange is folded over?

Here's a pic of a new AMD Repro

Re: Original GM or Repro Doors Question

i would think they are repro as i dont recall seeing any like that on known original door trucks... i assume there are no makrings stamped indicating GM on em?

No, unfortunately The General did not stamp doors. Unlike front fenders -- those have a GM stamp on the inside edge.

Re: Original GM or Repro Doors Question

Just checked. My 75 has folded over doors. My 84 CUCV(K30) has the 90* doors.

Could be a year thing. Or maybe they sourced doors from different factories and one folded and the other did 90*.

Re: Original GM or Repro Doors Question

The reproduction and GM doors 77 up are not folded over on the edge. An original 73-76 will not have the 90 but that doesn't mean it's oem if you see it that way as the 73-76 repro doors I have are made correctly.

Re: Original GM or Repro Doors Question

I would add that some repro 77-up do not have the 90. A pair that my dad got in the 1990s are bent over.

Re: Original GM or Repro Doors Question

OEM: I can't Rember for sure. But the telltale I believe is the corrugated steel vent stamped in the bottom section of the door. After market did do that. copied of the 77-91 make it close easier.

Re: Original GM or Repro Doors Question

Here's a pair of original 73-76. All flanges rolled over and two vents, inside and side.
