Beyond pissed

Finally get truck back from paint and putting on all the pretty's. Fighting with the fender badging and get one side done and instead of starting other side decide to do window regulators. No big deal get the driver's side done. Move over to the passenger side get started and go to slip roller in channel in door and guess what? No channel AMD didn't bother putting it in the door. Call Summit and they say well since you painted the door the best we can do is give you a discount on another one. Going to call AMD tomorrow and see what they say. So a word of advice look inside of your door for all the stuff that's suppose to be there before it goes to paint. Who would have thought.

Walk away from it today, deal with it tomorrow. Probably the best thing to do!

Re: Beyond pissed

Had the same problem on an AMD front bed panel for wood bed. Scuffed to paint and then discovered it was made wrong. In a way that it could not be fixed.... Summit says sorry no return.... I'd loved to hear if AMD makes this right for you. They should.

I've made use of that POS bed front panel as a test spray panel...

Edit: I haven't bought anything AMD since.... and hopefully never will....

Re: Beyond pissed

Before I bought all of my panels I checked the reviews and they had the highest reviews.

Re: Beyond pissed

Can you fit an old slide in and epoxy where it is spot welded? I realize not the best but it will avoid a paint issue.

Re: Beyond pissed

See if you can get AMD to pay for some panel adhesive and send you the missing pieces. I'd trust panel adhesive to keep things in place.

Having worked with panel adhesive very recently, I would agree with this. The only thing is make sure that you can reach the inner surfaces of the door that you will be bonding to, good adhesion is very dependent on appropriate surface prep and being able to clamp the parts together while the adhesive cures.

Re: Beyond pissed

I just looked at a door I have apart. You could weld the track in because the welds would be hidden behind the door panel.

Re: Beyond pissed

I contacted AMD today and went through 3 people working my way up. Finally what was resolved was they are sending me a new door and giving me $300. in store credit. They were not happy with Summit for not dealing with this because I guess they get paid to. So all in all They are standing behind their products. As far as paint I think I can add this piece without damaging the paint. I didn't think about panel bond but the spot weld or plug weld actually will be back behind the door panels like Jason said. I took the missing channel out of a old door and can weld it in. It seems like this whole build has been like this. So am I wrong in taking the door if I'm not going to use it?

Re: Beyond pissed

You are not wrong to take the door, you paid for a door with a channel in it. If you are able to fix yours and not use the replacement and decide to sell it that is on your initiative and the way I see it compensation for fixing their quality control issue.

Absolutely not! If you use the 2nd door did they ask for you to return the first door? If no then you have two doors, no matter which one you use. Good customer service on AMD's part.

Tell me what was wrong with the front bed panel? I have had one sitting in my shop for about a decade awaiting time to restore the truck. Haven't even taken it out of the box. What would I look for to determine if it was made correctly or not? I don't even recall what brand it is.

Re: Beyond pissed

Image attached of the front bed panel. Original 1968 panel with rust holes.

Middle panel is the Auto Metal Direct AMD panel that shows the spot welds running off the edge of the panel. They are running off the edge because the top on that side was not rolled correctly. I would not fit in the bedside because it's bulged out.

3rd panel is a MAR-K which is really nice. It's a shame they won't be available anymore.

Re: Beyond pissed

There's a real difference in the locations of the stiffener roll in all 3 panels.

Re: Beyond pissed

Crazy right. I do think the AMD is similar to later bed front panels. 71,72? Maybe someone can confirm...
