What would you pay for this truck ?

A friend of mine just picked up a 1971 C10 LB. It's a one owner, unmolested, uncut and running/driving truck. It has 77,130 miles. Has just a few rust spots that are easy to repair.

So, what would you be willing to pay for it?

Re: What would you pay for this truck ?

He is NOT willing to sell it, I tried a bunch of times to buy it for a $1000 more than he paid for it but he wouldn't take it and I don't blame him one bit, this truck is awesome.

I don't know what it's "worth", but I will never buy a vehicle with that amount of rusted out body parts. Your mileage obviously varies.

Re: What would you pay for this truck ?

CST with a Big Block... jeez nice truck. Every market is different, I couldn't hazard a guess to what it would be worth in your state. I would not be surprised to see it for 15-20K here.

In Canada you get that much rust driving it off the dealership lot.

Re: What would you pay for this truck ?

I know every area will command different prices, that's kind of why I asked what would you pay for this truck, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay.

Steeveedee, Not many of these trucks DON'T have rust, even the one in California still have this much rust.

$3-$5k here in Ca for me. Really $0 as I have no interest in a 67-72 2wd long bed regardless of the motor in it. FYI WIW is premium member stuff. No, not reported. But post may be seen and shut down.

Re: What would you pay for this truck ?

Thanks for all the responses so far,

His current plan for the truck is to check/change all the fluids, slap an AC belt on it to see if the compressor is still good, do a tune up, new tires and run it around town. Maybe if he gets tired out it he will sell it to me

Worth maybe 8ish, because its a BBC w ac and low miles i guess. suspect there's more rust where that came from.

I developed an assembly information kit for restoring my truck from nuts and bolts. It's written in Assy. order, short & simple, packed with all OEM hardware ID; castings; part ID; 100s of part numbers; wiring simple - Resource, and trivial too.

Much info. applies to all 67-72 GM, A/C vehicles, esp. trucks W/O saying. Full search ability, including to 700+ images of illus., parts, charts, Assy., points of interest, cab, bed, & front clip cart plans- Specials and cores were serviced out and R excluded e.g. front/rear glass, body/paint, engine core, rebuilt hinges, steering box, trans, etc.

The project was in-line with long former professions developing process, policy, specs, demo, written for novices, admin., policy, engineers, development, systems & test - Public & govt 2, gross. Sell soft copy cheaply, PM if interested.

Oh I know all about that hidden rust, I've got a 68 C10 that didn't look too bad when I bought it until I tore into it, I'm still fixing the rust issues, but on the bright side I only have two more spots of rust to fix, then onto the bodywork, yeah baby!

Re: What would you pay for this truck ?

3-4K here. There’s plenty of trucks around with little to no rust though. Certainly less rust than that. Lower mile one owners don’t come around much these days. I don’t think I’d sell it if it were me.

So he got it for $500 !!?? I kid. I'm not fishing for the price he paid.
That's a nice truck even with the rust it has. Firewall drip edge looks good, truck can turn out really nice. Some of the trucks around here that I wouldn't look twice at, people are asking 7-10k. Pretty ridiculous.
The folks in here saying 3-5k aren't way off, but they obviously live in an area still full of super nice, CHEAP trucks for sale. Good for you!!

Re: What would you pay for this truck ?

My problem is sellers on fb and other places that have a truck with no rockers, no corners, roof rust, and bed/fender rust and just say " it's your typical rust, no big deal" and pretend they don't have to lower the price at all......just because most trucks rust the same.

That excuse is BS in my opinion. That's like saying it's ok your kid got beat up because other kids at that school get beat up too.

I believe any rust on any truck should devalue it considerably, no matter how "common" the rust is among that generation. I am a total novice but I have worked with various patch panels--any rust repair takes considerable effort and patience.

Yep that is true there are still quite a good bit of them here, compared to the east coast at least where I grew up. Most of them here have minimal rust.

What drives the market mostly is supply. Where there isn't an abundance of supply the price goes up accordingly.
I'm in agreement with your statement, any form of rust repair is time and money. It adds up quick. The cost to repair the really bad ones usually surpass the value of the end result. Paint and body supplies cost 4-5x what it should.

I'm not sure where the land of entrapment ends or begins, but I would sure like to come visit just long enough to find a $3k gem then slide on outta there.

Yes this is very unfortunate. My best guess is we get most of the base materials that make up the chemicals that make up paint from overseas, and our relationship with those folks is politically deteriorating; tariffs maybe??

Nonetheless that's why I think the products aren't changing much, but the prices are. Inflation doesn't help.
It sounds like it used to be fairly affordable for a guy to paint their own car...

People say AMERICA should bring back MANUFACTURING!!!

I'd invite anyone with that mindset to go on youtube and search "Dupont paint factory Flint Michigan standard oil"

I'd also like to invite anyone to volunteer THEIR TOWN to be the next location for these "new American factories" we need to build.

It ain't gonna be me.
There's a reason we sent that crap overseas. The issue of making things cheaper here in the states is much more convoluted than it appears.

The land of entrapment is a play on New Mexico’s long standing nickname the “land of enchantment”. It’s a time joke amongst many New Mexico residents. I live in the Albuquerque suburbs.

Don't think I've ever seen a spid on a 71 that still showed 396 for engine size and its a Fremont truck too and has the 400 fender callouts.

Hard to find original one owner unmolested trucks with te Cheyenne PKG & a BB and Factory Intact A/C, even if it it doesn't blow cold, up here in the Great White North. I agree 10/12K here but it'd be on FB Marketplace for 22/23k..
