Ignition switch- ACC powers points?
I’m wiring my fuel pump and ignition box. I figured the yellow wire to the coil would be hot only in the start and run positions, but it’s on in the acc position also. Is my switch bad?

Re: Ignition switch- ACC powers points?
No, there should be no power to the points in the "ACC" position. If so, then someone has messed with the wiring.

When doing electrical work, especially when adding electrical accessories, your best friend and tool is a wiring diagram.. These diagrams are available as download stickies in the ELECTRICAL forum..

Re: Ignition switch- ACC powers points?
These two connectors in the fuse block are hot when the ignition is on only pins. I have my hei plugged into one of them on my 71.
I did that rather than deal with the resistor wire and bypass wire that were part of the points setup. I just taped the stock ign wire up and tied it up to the wirring harness so I could quickly and easily stick a point style distributor back in if I ever wanted to.

Re: Ignition switch- ACC powers points?
Keeping the points wire is a great idea, but all that is really needed is to replace the resistance wire on the engine side of the firewall with a 12 gauge wire to power the HEI. You could always remove the 12 gauge wire and reinstall the resistance wire if you wanted to switch back to points.
