72 k20

I lost my two prized possessions two 72 k20s when my house burned down.totally restored. Now that the house is rebuilt last summer I started rebuilding one of the two trucks the frame looked fine to me.but when I started to hang sheet metal I had to shim 3/8 “ my first clue I had a problem was when Installing the motor I had to shave that 3/8 off the cross member to get crank pulley to clear the issue is in the diamond area.I have a vibration issue the cab shakes bad enough you can see the brake booster vibrate .the bed and other parts are at the body shop waiting for the rest of the truck. I restored both trucks a frame might be hard to find with out dragging the whole truck home I have four already wife says no more.I threw a ton of money at this truck already . I’m wondering if the three shims I had to add on front cab mounts could be making vibrations or the change in geometry between motor and transfer case is doing it.trying to find some one to straighten the frame might be hard to find without specs .any advice would help. I 68 years old now I don’t think i have it in me to tear it apart and start over. I hung the doors and fenders looks good measured from ground up . Any advice is welcome.

Here’s some of the factory dimensions… after 50 years I doubt many are still perfect. I’d bet many left the assembly line imperfect. only thing you can really do is get a tape out and start measuring to see where it’s off. Measure from common points in a X on both sides of the frame and it will become apparent real quick where it’s off.

Re: 72 k20

Thanks for the info here is what it looked like before fire .my main concern is the vibration weather it’s a alignment issue due to different angle of motor.

Re: 72 k20

Is the shaking when you're driving or stopped? Stopped would indicate something in the engine or torque converter/flywheel; driving would point me elsewhere.

it doesn’t seem like the motor shaking more like the frame & inside of the cab
