A/C evaporator box shims which positions do they go?

Separated the a/c evaporator box and there were two shims that fell out before I saw where they went. Can someone please tell me where they go so
I put it back together correctly?

Anyone? I'm thinking they go on the front, but not sure and not sure if they go between the evaporator tabs and the section closest to the passenger fender or between the half that is on the other side and the evaporator.

Sorry, do not have any idea what you are asking about? I do not recall any "shims" being used in my system. Can you post a picture of the parts? There are some backing plates that go inside the box where the TXV/POA bracket attaches.

Are you talking about the metal tubes that go between the firewall and a/c housing? If so the longer screws that are exposed on top they go there.

Here’s a pic of the shims. The box had never been apart so they have to be factory. I’m thinking that they went on the front middle two bolts but not sure if they were or if so how they were oriented.

Those are body shims. Probably fell from the corner cowl bolt that is kind of above the box.

+1. No shims on my system either. They are likely body sims dropped and not recovered from as far back as originally assembly.

If you removed the inner fender there are shims that go behind the large bolt way under and in the back of your inner fenders. Between inner fender and cab.

Yes, one or two may be found there on each side. The shims should look like this though https://classicparts.com/1967-72-fro...-f-shim-set-pr

None of that was touched by me. I'll reassemble the system without shims. Not sure where they came from originally or how long they were where they were. Thanks for the answers.

Probably spare parts from when it was assembled eons ago. Your truck was probably a Friday afternoon or a Monday morning built truck. Someone thought they were being funny and just threw them in the A/C box when the truck was going down the line.

I think inner fender are usually "F" shims, but though I suppose there could be varieties. Those look like common 3/8" OEM body shims from here and perhaps they fell like others say, graveyard shift and hammered, like when they installed my radiator, missed some rivets, too high on one Deluxe badge.

71 short you are correct originally they were F style shims. But I have never seen them in place. I'm guessing most don't get put back in.

Glad to hear you say so. I can't remember if I bought them, but found no need to install them, and didn't find shims there to begin with. The inner is square on the rail, what more can you ask for. Perhaps they make it easier to install the parameter, not sure.

Shims in photo are those used behind the 2 upper front fender bolts at top of front fender at cowl. So at some point the 2 top rear bolts at cowl were loosened or removed allowing these to fall out.

I've seen shims like that under the corner cowl bolt. Regardless, they don't belong inside the evap box
