Afternoon project.

After 30 years of owning this truck I finally installed 3 point seat belts. I order them from Seat Belts Plus. It took about an hour to install then a good vacuuming under seat while it was out. Now the wife will ride with me and feel safe.

Re: Afternoon project.

Pic of the buckle came out really green. Also here is the belt color. It matched the factory lap belts perfectly.

Got my 3-point belts from board vendor Tom Korinek a few years ago. Great upgrade!

Re: Afternoon project.

.

Did the same about 6 year or so ago. Afterward I wanted to understand seat belt law with respect to classic vehicles. What I learned was that in Texas it's legal to ride with whatever was factory installed, if any. However, if the belts are installed, even by owner, it becomes a traffic infraction if they are not used.

Re: Afternoon project.

I'm getting close to installing the floor mat and seat and have been looking at which 3 point I'll purchase. These look like a couple of good suggestions.

Re: Afternoon project.

Are the belts smooth to pull out? The ones I installed are SUPER sensitive and lock if you pull them too fast. I've spoken to a few people that installed aftermarket belts and many say the same thing.

My buddy and next-door neighbor has an upholstery shop in his garage.
We took the factory seat and modified it by cutting out the center section and mounting the top section of a late-model truck console.
I wanted to have a console and also a full bench.
I did all the metal fab and he made the foam and sewed the cover.

Wow that turned out really great. Do you have a more detailed build on that seat?

I have a few more pictures but it was a seat-of-the pants project.
I have a machine/fab/welding shop, so the metal work was pretty easy.
I reworked the hinges and fabricated a latch so that the entire back folds forward, allowing access behind the seat.

My buddy does high-end interiors and we swap out work much of the time.
We removed the factory springs and used elastic webbing on the seating surface. That lowered it a couple of inches and gave me more shoulder and leg room.

He is fantastic at cutting and shaping the foam. He made the contour of the foam to an exact fit to my lower back while I was sitting on the seat, so it's really comfortable.
He created the pattern and sewed the cover from Allante vinyl material, everyone thinks it's leather.

a few more pics

Re: Afternoon project.

Good info and pics in this thread. I got my 3-point belts from Seatbeltplanet.com. One factor was getting aircraft-style latches in turquoise that were similar to the OEM belts.
