what year 700r4 trans would i need to use . and what mods would i have to do to use a 700 trans for my truck . i am runing a 383 stroker with 400hp and 475lb tourqe. any info would be help ful thanks.

Welcome to the board from frozen central Ohio...what part of LA you in? I was just in Chalmette over X-mas visiting the inlaws, y'all have some clean trucks down there.
You may want to look into the 200-4R, it is an easier swap, better gearing, and onless you go too wild with the engine, it is just as dependable as the 700 R4. It is normally cheaper to buy too.

I'd stay with the 700 instead of the 200! I have a buddy who is the absolute GURU on 700's that I can hook you up with! One thing I have experienced is if you buy a stall convertor make sure they know what the truck weighs. I broke three Art Carr convertors before they got it right I was running a nice stroker motor in a 89 model extended cab. I think if you get a tranny out of a 88 or 89 truck it may still have a mechanical Speedo!

Hmmm, upon re-reading the original thread (engine output portion) I'd say stick with the 700R4, and even then i doubt a stock one would hold up too long if you drive it hard.
