Power steering question
Hello
I recent built a 72 k10. Did a 4 “ lift with 33s. Took it out today for the first time and the steering is was to easy, is there any way to tighten it up to make it feel like you got more control of it. |

Re: Power steering question
Maybe try borgeson and redhead but who knows if they'll have the feel you want.

Re: Power steering question
An educated guess from past experience. The lift removed caster from the front axle making it feel looser. Get an alignment. Stock caster on 67-72 4x4 trucks is about 3-4 degrees with later model solid axle trucks approaching 8 degrees. Any thing under 3-4 degrees is just something to live with due to compromises made for front shaft angle. 3-4 degrees of caster should be easily attainable with a 4" lift.

Re: Power steering question
Interesting point. I wonder if its a shackle or spring lift.

Re: Power steering question
Probably spring. A 4" shackle lift would need to be 8" longer than stock, unlikely. A shackle lift on the front would actually increase caster as well. Many off the shelf lift springs add caster shims under the pack or are designed to tilt the pinion up to alleviate driveshaft angle, decreasing caster. Not really necessary with most 4" lifts. That is where my past experience is.

Re: Power steering question
It drives, but feels like your drive on ice or something,

Re: Power steering question
Interested to see where you are at. Many prefer the feel of more caster in the 6-8 degree range than the stock 3-4 degrees in these old trucks. I set my truck up at just above 6 degrees initially. Can go + or - 2 degrees easily with the links. But the + will impact drive shaft angle. Please post an update.

I just would like it a little tighter so it feels like you got to try and steer it if that makes sense. Right know it feels like you really got to barley need to turn the wheel to keep it going straight easy. At like 15 mph. It would Be scary at 65. |
