Clutch, pushrod, bearing problems

My clutch disengages only with the lower pushrod adjusted out almost fully. I have the lower pushrod on the outer most hole on the clutch fork. This is the clutch fork I am using 3765372. 614018 is the original throwout bearing I had and I replaced it with 614037 which is a bit longer (I did this to regain some adjustment since the original bearing had me at a max adjustment).

Here’s the problem: I have to adjust the lower pushrod such that I am reloading the fingers on the pressure plate which I know is incorrect. However, if I back the bearing off such that it’s not touching the fingers, the clutch won’t disengage.

ChatGPT tells me that there may be something wrong with my travel. I also know that ChatGPT can be wrong. So here I am to get some input.

Re: Clutch, pushrod, bearing problems

Did you put in a whole new clutch kit with bearing, disc and pressure plate all together?

Did you put in a whole new clutch kit with bearing, disc and pressure plate all together? Also what year is the truck?

Re: Clutch, pushrod, bearing problems

No I didn’t. It’s kind of all pieced together. I know I have an 87 block from the casting numbers. I don’t know where the pressure plate and clutch disc came from. It has the sm420 transmission. 4 on the floor.

Do you think that could fix my issue? Can you recommend a kit or where to start looking?

Its a 1966 c10

My uncle gave me the truck and said I can have it. So long as I get it running and promised to work on it. He had a bunch of c10’s and took pieces to make it work. I drove it around for a while but I’m now married and have my own garage so I’m taking care of a bunch of loose ends.

Re: Clutch, pushrod, bearing problems

I think a whole kit would be a good plan. Make sure you have a flywheel for an 11" clutch and make sure its got a nice surface and good teeth on the ring gear. (A machine shop can fix it up if its sub par.) Chevy had a few different clutches and mix n' match may not play well together. Napa, or any good parts store should be helpful. If you get it back apart again maybe post some pics of what you've got.
