67-72 Frame Question

Howdy All,
Looking for some clarification on the 67-72 frames. I do know that all 4x4 frames have straight rails in the rear, correct? On the 2wd frames, it seems that the frame curve outwards near the rear axle, and then kick back to straight after the rear axle? Is this the case with coil spring rear suspension and leaf spring suspension? I am also not sure if 2wd c10 trucks were available with leaf spring suspension, for I have never owned a 2wd c10? Thank you for any help you can provide.

Hi Tommy,

Here is a picture of a '72 3/4 ton, leaf spring frame for my Dually project. Post #29

You can see how it kicks in in the back.

All Two wheel drive frames regardless of rear suspension have the same bends. You are correct all 4x4’s are straight in the rear.

Re: 67-72 Frame Question

Thank you for all the replies fellas.

Next question is this: I have a 2wd c10 long bed frame with coil spring suspension. I bought it sight unseen, and I just assumed it has leaf spring suspension. With that said, I need it to be leaf spring, for I am just using the back half, and will connect to the front of my 4x4 suburban frame....ironically, I bought from Leon about 10 years ago. This is for my crew cab project. How can I convert the long bed truck frame rear into leaf spring suspension? Can I use the rear hangers off of the suburban frame? Are the same as from a truck frame? Are there holes already drilled into a coil spring frame for leaf hangers?

Sorry for all the questions in one post. And always, thank you for the help.

Thomas

Re: 67-72 Frame Question

Yep, you can use them. You’ll have to drill the holes though.

Good to know. Wasn't sure since the suburban hangers are from a 4x4 frame. I'm guessing I should just measure off a leaf spring frame, 2wd or 4wd? Thank you sir

Re: 67-72 Frame Question

If it was me I think I’d put the springs and axle together and then slide it in place centered in the wheel well to get an idea where the hangers need to go. Then find a common place to measure on both sides to make sure the hangers will be installed square to each other if that makes sense.

I think that makes a lot of sense. Next time I'll check if it's a leaf spring truck First lol...
