Gps
I thought I would post the location of my GPS receiver.
I have an LS swap and didn't want to spend $1k on a new instrument panel. So, I bought an $80 GPS speedometer off Amazon and installed it. The temp gauge is stock 1967 with an ICT billet adapter, the oil pressure is mechanical, and the ammeter has been changed to a voltmeter out of a squarebody. There is nowhere on the body to mount the receiver that isn't obnoxious. So, I mounted it in the bed for a while. But then I bought a bedcover, so that no longer worked. I ended up putting it under the cowl cover in the center of the truck. I was worried that it might not have enough view of the sky from there, but it's been working good for several hundred miles. I haven't heard many people on this board mention GPS but I really like it. I have 2 LS swaps, and both have a GPS speedometer. One of them even has a clock in it. Perfect speed and perfect time. |

Re: Gps
I have a GPS tracker on my Blazer. It's hidden under the receiver hitch.
Whoops, I let the secret out. Please don't steal my truck.

I installed a Speedhut GPS speedometer in my green '67 back in 2010, after I put the S-10 5 speed trans in it. Back then it was about the only game in town except for the Dakota Digital stuff. https://mail.67-72chevytrucks.com/vb...d.php?t=421745 I moved that cluster to my Blue '72 Dually when I installed the NV4500 5 speed manual trans in it. It is still working great today.

Re: Gps
Mine is under the dash, works fine. It is a NVU device, works so well that I forget it is GPS sometimes.

Re: Gps
Mine is pretty small, but it is in the far right corner on the dash. The wiring is under the rubber door seal. The dash is orange and the unit is black and nobody even notices it is there. It only works for the GPS when running Google maps through Apple Carplay.

Re: Gps
I'm going to revive this after a couple of months. Any updates on your stuff? I'm looking at getting one of these and actually just posted a thread asking for input on a GPS speedometer. I would think mounting to the dash in the corner would be well enough for a signal, or does it need a clear line of site to pick up on? Could it be hidden under the dash?

Re: Gps
In my case it needs line of site to a satellite? I guess.
My speedo will go to zero in a tunnel for example. And it wouldn't work when I had it in the bed after I added a bed cover. That is why I moved it to the spot in the first post. |
