Autometer Conversion Question
I am considering converting my stock gauges to Autometer Carbon Fiber gauges. Would I need to get mechanical or electrical gauges? BTW, the truck is a '87 Silverado if it helps.

You are going to get a 50/50 answer on this from everyone.
Electrical is supposed to be easier to install, and typically mechanical are more accurate. I run mechanical gauges...always have.

chicogixr, on Mikes article, there is a "wire them in" hyperlink...but it appears to be broken, I will go home tonight and fix that. Maybe Mike will see this before then and post a pic.

Here's the way they look with the billet bezel in place. I also moved the three LED's down to where the shifter dial was, after installing a Megashifter.

I want to mount them to the bezel like Swervin has his. Probably wire in a LED for the high beam indicator also. What size works better, 2-1/16" or 2-5/8"?

Mike, has anyone ever told you your dash looks like an airplane cockpit?
87silvy, I believe the 2 5/8 gauges are the ones you want.

I used the 5" speedo and tach, and 2-5/8" for the others. The three LED's I used are for high beam, choke, and park brake indicators.
Jeff, I've heard that before. |
