Red face Insure Adequate Ventilation!

Decided that the easiest way to replace the master cylinder in my 73 bug was to remove the gas tank first, and in order to do that I had to cut the fuel line underneath.

Assumed the gas tank was almost empty and I was wrong and by the time I put a pan underneath to catch the fuel there was a pretty good sized puddle underneath on the floor already.

Mopped that up, cracked open the bottom of the garage door to help get rid of the fumes and proceeded to replace the master cylinder, which took a decent amount of time due to complications and then I went downstairs to relax for a bit.

In a matter of just a few minutes I suddenly couldn't breathe, my lungs were gurgling with fluids in and out and I couldn't get any oxygen and I got scared so I called 911 and those wonderful folks brought me some oxygen and I'm doing OK now.

That was scary!

Yeah buddy! Fumes are silent and can be deadly.

A bud of mine was dressed in a t shirt and jeans while working in the yard. He poured a bit of gas on the pile of limbs and was mindfull enough to pour a little trail of gas away from the pile for safety while he lit it. What he didn't realize was gas fumes had attached to his sweatty clothing. As soon as he struck a match his clothing went up in a blaze. He dropped to the ground and rolled. Ended up with major burns on his arms and neck. He lived but not without a very painful recovery.

Re: Insure Adequate Ventilation!

That's a scary story Boog!
When I first went into the garage it smelled like strong fumes but soon I got used to it and didn't even notice it.

One other possibility is the master cylinder bolts have to pass through a sleeve between the sheet metal panels and mine were laying in the bottom of the body trough so I fished them out and it took forever to try to get the things back in between the sheet metal but in the meantime I pulled up the carpet so I'm down there with my face barely above the carpet and that place has mice I'm just wondering if maybe I inhaled some garbage that the mice left?

I thought I had to fit the sleeves in between the panels but as it turns out I could have just slid it in the hole in the body side and it would have fit right in in seconds but instead I was down there bending the metal out with channel locks for apparently no reason.

Anybody know where I can get a wrench like this that thing looks really good to have around.

ETA: Apparently those Wrenches are fairly common, I've never seen one before. https://a.co/d/04BcjXkj

Two tools I had forgotten about. I bought the Penncraft back in the late '70's. Penny's sold all sorts of stuff.
