rear end swap
I want to change my 67 coil rear end to a 5lug. My question is what other rears will fits? Can I put a newer rear in and change the axle saddles? If I go to the junk yard what width axle am I looking for or what year am I looking for ? Forgot to mention it is a 2wd and I would like a 3:73 rear.
Thanks for the help, Pete |

A rear end from a 71 or 72 with coil spring should bolt right in and give you your 5 lugs. 73 and up are all set up for leaf springs.
Somewhere there is discussion on using 71 and up axles in your rear, but they are 3/4" wider than your present axles and you would have to make a spacer to use them.

I would try to find a 71 or 72 truck with the coil springs. It would be a direct bolt in and I think allot of the 6cyl and some of the v8 trucks had 3.73's.
