Traction bars on '68 c20?

Do the '68 c20s come with traction bars from the factory? Mine has some type of goofy huge trac bar setup that somebody has painted green. Just wondering if it was stock? What purpose would it serve anyway? I can't do any burnouts and no offroading (2wd), so why would axle wrap be a problem?

what do you mean traction bars, the bars from middle of the frame to the rear? Do you have coils or leaf springs in the rear?

I wish I had some pics of it but it's 100 miles away from me right now. I have rear coils. Yes, they go from the middle of the frame to the rear. I'm pretty sure it's not a sway bar, there are actually two separate bars and if I recall correctly, I think they are made of c-channel.

Sounds like trailing arms to me. That would be stock. it was the way they made the rear suspension for the chevy's. The GMC's had leaf spring rears. Trailing arms are great to prevent wheel hop, and give a smoother ride than leafs, IMO. Not so good for loading up, but haven't heard of anyone really having problems there either.

well, with the coil rears, you could have ordered a factory overload leaf that came from the back of the frame to the trailing arms. that helped with the loading on the chevy's

It also has overload leaves in addition to these bars.

Yeah, I think they're just the stock trailing arms like everyone else said. You really can't beat that setup; it was a great design.
