??'s on 72 grill assembly

As many of you are aware, when a new grill surround is purchased, the brackets are not installed.
When is the best time to install them?
Before the grill is installed to the truck or after the brackets are mounted in the opening. Is there much alignment needed or can it be assembled out of the truck and still get excellent alignment?

I riveted the brackets on before mounting it. Everything lined up fine. Never thought about doing it the opposite way. Maybe I lucked out.
