Need to get a faster truck
Driving home last night on the freeway I had some guy on my rear bumper, I coudnt see what he was driving because my rear view mirror fell off afew days ago and all I could see out the side mirror was his front turn signal and the side of his truck, the speed limit was only 55,I was doing 65,I then went to 70 then 75 then 80 then I looked in the mirror and he wasnt there so I looked out the passenger side window and there he was next to me, a 55 year old guy driving a f*rd lightning,I think he wanted to race but I just waived him on by,the old chevy was not going beat that factory hot rod.
Now I need to save money and get something that will give that lightning a good run I just opened a saving account today just for that pupose,I call it the lightning killer account ,I put $400 in it and will be putting $100 in it every other week on my paydays so in a few years i should be able to put together a badass truck,it don't have to be purdy but it's going to be fast . Bob

nothing more satisfying then driving your fixer upper truck or car that isnt done on the outside but the drive train is finished and you kick the butt of someone in their new supposed hot car or truck

Go for it man.....build a solid-cammed 468 (or other equally potent big block), with a TH400 and 3.73 posi....maybe a shot of nitrous too.
Imagine the look on the driver of a lightning's face after an old longstep eats his lunch

I have often thought how sweet it would be to have an old chevy that could smoke any ricer fast and furious wannabee or any mustang or camaro. Good luck man and keep us posted as you go through the buildup.

Fast truck
Quote:
That's what i was thinking But I will keep the longstep for a daily driver,A guy I work with told me there was stepside like mine by his house so I went and looked at it, it was a 69 shortbed that looked like it was somebodys project,no seat ,rear fender missing and flat tires so I think I will go make an offer on it.and I know were a short wide bed is that somebody made into a trailer and it's full of junk and it has just sitting there forever so I will go offer them a couple hundred for it,they don't need it they have another utility trailer sitting there if they need to haul anything. That should be a good start then save money for the engine, tranny, rearend and don't foget about the brakes,if you want to go fast you need to be able to slow down also Bob

find the ugliest, most rusted truck you can find and put an awesome drivetrain in there!
so everybody will think its a pos truck until you drop that pedal hear that engine rev up real high and you spin the tires going 60. lol. plus all that rust will save some weight

Just drop in one of the new 572 Gm crate motors and a 3.07 gear and wave by-by to the F*^d.

Woulndt take much to beat that lightning
Maybe a .30 over 350 with about 10.5-1 292H Comp magnum cam and some vortec heads with a Vic Jr intake. Th350 shift kit 3000 stall And some 3.73 gears pretty afordable combo that will produce good power and torque |

Hmm, is it a digital video camera? I think they save the files in a compressed video format. Maybe you can hook it up to the PC somehow and upload it to some webspace? I know my digital camera takes short videos and saves them in the Quicktime format. Oh well, I hope you can figure that out soon, I'd love to see your truck in action.

i have made videos with my sony 3.2 MP cam, and frankly they look like poo. but then again I didn't buy it to take movies. the subject needs to be well lit, and you cant move the cam alot, or have the subject move alot, cuz the autofocus will make your eyes bleed watching it in replay. and you need a big memory card, the stock 16 megger only holds 42 seconds or so.

I dunnno Ive had friends that had very similar motors In mid 80's Chevy SWB Trucks and they could easily outrun a lightning. Seems Like They were runnin In the Low 8's 1/8 Mile Of Course.

I agree with 1972C10. I have friend that has a 67 SWB that run's mid 7's in the 1/8. He is running a 383 with edelbrock heads. Even before the stroker motor he was running in the high 7's. Most factory lightnings run around mid 8's.

Check out 383 Stroker's page where he has videos of him racing a Lightning (a beating the s*@t out of it!)
Umm.... I've seem to have lost my link. I'll try to find it. |
