the website, my Blazer, and a request

Hey folks, have been doing some updating to 73-87.com as of late (still alot to do), and thought I would share some info and pics on my Blazer. I also added some pics and info on some of my other 73-87's as well as more articles, ads, toons, and what not.

I also have a request, does anyone have any old 80's Truckin mags or PV4 (pickup, Van, and 4wd) magazines laying around they would like to sell..or even scan for me (Ken, you reading )? I am looking for some 81+ articles and information to add to the site, my personal collection consist of mainly 73-80 stuff.

One more thing, looking for ideas on what to do graphically with the main page. I like Mikes setup with the revolving pics, but want to add more to it...I just don't know what. What do you folks think about revolving pics of all sorts of 73-87, maybe from the "post your truck thread"??

Any suggestions would be welcomed!

Thanks

Mike, I have been looking on e-bay, but not much comes up for the 80's...at least not lately.

1972C10, are you interested in selling them, or maybe scanning/copying them for me? I used to have some of those, like making a lwb into a swb, and converting a 4wd Blazer to 2wd...but I must have tossed them years ago...dooh! Let me know if you are interested and how much you would like for them or for scanning/copying them. Thanks.

Still looking for front page ideas to folks.

Jeff, I'll have to look in my attic and see what I have. I put all my old mags up when I moved 4 years ago and haven't had them out since then.
I hate to say it, but I throw my current mags away if the stack gets to tall before I can find a donor.

Your Blazer sure looks good. That thing would look so much better with two minor changes. Paint it black (and leave the woodgrain/trim on), and move it to my garage....

Yeah, but am more attached to my 73...and of course my future 68-70 Charger, 49-54 Chevy streetrod, ...

Don't worry Chris, I am not going to put a ton of money into it, just want to make it look a little better.

Slaonaker, thanks for the link, I am going to check into that.

Ken, Black would look good...but if you ever got your mitts on it I have a hunch that wouldn't be the only change.

Jeff,
For frontpage ideas, you can go to www.guistuff.com and find all kinds of cool interfaces and modify them for your needs.

A slideshow idea sounds good as long as it doesn't make your page load too slow. I've always liked flash intros and websites but they're pretty advanced. That's something I'll be learning when I get a chance. I have a cool idea for a flash intro on my site someday whenever I have the time to develop the skills

Flash... Yuck! Most of what people do with it on websites is bloated and slow. I vote for keeping it simple.

Maybe you can find someone with some design skills who will help you come up with a nice template. BTW, I am not that person. One look at my site will tell you that I have no skills...

Flash is nice if you have DSL or cable. Us cheap people on dial up flash is way too much for us to check out a website. If you did a flash or html version where you could choose would be better.

I don't have any old mags. Wish I did and I'd give them to you.

As far as the sites main page, keep it simple so it loads fast for everyone. I hate going to sites and watching everything load slow. Of course it doesn't bother me much with my satellite connection, but when I was on dialup, it sucked.

Most folks who visit the site are not looking for pretty stuff. People who work on trucks don't care about fancy sites. All they are after is the info you provide to them. That is the main reason I kept it the way I did. All the time I had it, I never had one complaint about it being slow. I always checked it with my backup dialup connection to be sure it worked good.

BTW, you are doing a great job, before I forget it.

Heather, thanks for the link. At the risk of sounding dumb, what is the difference between interfaces and templates?

Mike, thanks for the kind words, I am really having fun with it, just wish I could do more.

Blue Beard, click here to see the full size toon of my avatar.

Thanks for the help everyone, You have all helped! I plan on keeping the site simple, I just wan to make the front page a little more interesting...but of course not slow either.

Sites getting better all the time. Sorry I can't help you with the mags. Most of my old stuff got lost in all the moves around the world with good ole Uncle Sam's USAF.
