Any power in a 4.3 V8?
can a 4.3 V8 out of a 95 caprce put out good power with some mods? i hear they are 220hp stock, i think that motor would be kinda cool in a old truck, not to mention unique.

I would imagine it would run about as good as the old 265s Or maybe it would compare to the raw power of a 267 V8

i dont think the 4.3 is a V8. It's a 6. I think they push around 180 or 190 hp

There was a 4.3 V6 AND a 4.3 V8.
The 4.3 V8 doesn't really look any different externally than an LT1 as far as the block goes. So, it might be unique, but you'd be the only person that really knew it was. Just get an LT1 instead, it's basically the same engine with more cubes, a cooler intake manifold, and a lot more power.

the 4.3 V6 is a great little motor, basically a 350 with 2 cylinders cut off. the 4.3 V8 from the late 70s early 80s was a turd.

Go drive an S-10.Most of them are built with a 4.3.They aren't as torquey as a straight 6 and don't have the power of a V-8 but the aftermarket is fairly well geared up for them. There is even a motorbooks book out on modifying them for performance.

1972C10, your partially right, I confused the turd 267 from the late 70s early 80s with the turd 262V8 from the mid 70s used in the Monzas. the 262(4.3)V6 shares the same bore & stroke as the 350. the 262 & 267 V8s have a tiny bore. Infact the 4.3 V6 makes alot more power than the 262 V8 did. John

yeah no doubt that 4.3 v6 is a good engine they will run forever give really good service during the time and have good power . I think that 267 v8 was just a good idea On paper during the "gas shortage" |

HAHA thats one hell of a paper wieght. They use the same crank as a 350 but know how the balancing holes are deeper in a 305 crank than a 350 the holes in a 267 are really deep at least the one i tore down did.
Guy give me one of them 267s one time out of a 81 camino so i had a runnin motor friend of mine had a 94 isuzu and he wanted to do a V8 conversion so i give him this Runnin motor we got it in there got all the kinks worked out three days later went to knocking But for the time it did run It was tottaly gutless and this is in a super light truck Total junkers |

I don't know about a 4.3 for our trucks....I once thought about it....however......I have a 1988 Astro Van with a rebuilt 4.3 liter engine in it. It runs great and has pretty good power......however I'm not sure how it would do in a older truck like ours....the weight would be a real drag and constant strain on the poor little motor.....If you want to save fuel I can understand......but you might be better off with a straight 6 for power and fuel milage.....the hard part is finding one......but when they are tuned, they run smooth and you can leave two big black strips behind you......and just a warning to ya.....if you choose a 4.3 liter engine,......make sure it's not one built between 91 and 95......those were ****'n peices of **** engines......just ask Longhorn.....he he he

Like he said, he's asking about the 4.3 V8, not the six cylinder.
I worked on grandma cars at the dealer with them. They look like an LT1 under the hood, but the sticker says 4.3. They run alright I guess.

Check out the 9C1 group on Yahoo and the ImpalaSS forum for info on the "baby" LT1's. If you want an opinion, I would not go through the hassle of installing a LT1 unless it was the iron head or aluminum head version 5.7 350. The iron head came in the Impala SS and some Caprices...not all cop cars had them...and of course the F-Body Camaro and Trans AM's had the aluminum head version with the corvette besting them with a 4 bolt main block. There are a few instances where folks have upgraded the 4.3 V8 and seen some definite increases however they did this becauase the 4.3 is what they had....with the same effort on an LT1 you can easily see well over 400hp. You can also stroke them to 396 which is the direction I am going for my 94 9C1.

No prob Miket. I've seen them around, but,
The dealership I worked in, they were pretty much all grandma cars. It's an old town with lots of little old ladies. I might see 1 Impala a month and maybe 1 V8 F body a week come through the shop. Saw tons of full size, wire wheel hubcap, white wall tire cars though. Usually complete with a hand knitted afghan on the seat, Chihuaua hair all over the inside, Bingo score cards in the glovebox and a triple A sticker on the back window. Those types of cars always had the 4.3 V8.
