They're 8's. It doesnt sound too horrible. All the components were bought at the local WALL-MART. You get what you pay for. I have around $150.00 in it all total. Amp ($80), subs ($20 each), head unit (used for $40)

I am also curious to know the dimensions if that is going under a stock seat.

The ladies will love that setup!

that looks pretty sweet. i cant tell what kind of wood you used there, but i would suggest to anyone else who is going to attempt sub boxes to use something called medium density fiberboard (or something like that). its the stuff kitchen counters are made of. go with at least 1/2 inch thick stuff. and if at all possible, go with more volume, and an irregular shape box. i dont know why the shape matters, but in my experience, it helps. just my two cents

Did you get the airspace right for them speakers?

I Agree Sukes84 MDF is the only wood to use to build a speaker box I always use 3/4 or 5/8 when bulding boxes plywood has atendacy to rattle loose after time.

I haven't done subs under one of these truck seats in a long time but If you can fire the subs down towards the floor they will sound lots better. They will need about 2 inches of space. I'll try to post dimensions. Bass needs something to resonate off of! MDF is a good material to build boxes out of but any high quality plywood(like birch) is fine you just shouldn't use cheap plywood because it has knot holes and voids inbetween the plys.

And if your wondering about your air space just take your length, multiplied by your width, multiplied by your height ( inside demensions) and divide that number by 1728 and that will give you your airspace in cubic feet.

Well as far as I can tell, you need anywhere from .50 to .90 cubic feet with that sub in a sealed enclosure for optimum sound and .90 to 1.50 cubic feet in a ported enclosure.

I planned on sealing the enclosure. Would you recommend facing the sub towards the floor??

I'll try to measure my 71 with stock bench seat tomorow and design a box for our trucks! I have been in the car stereo business since 1986. I own my own mobile car stereo shop now where I go to the customer and sell product and do install.

Sealed boxes are alot easier to make than ported Getting port location is critical and ported requires larger enclosure so if your goin for under seat wich needs to be small sealed is the best bet

Thanks, DJRacer

I think that there would be alot of interest in a custom designed box for under our bench seats. One of the downfalls of a truck like ours with the tank in the cab, is sound.

I cant wait to yank the tank!!!
