Msd Hei Thoughts

Going to replace my aging hei with tax money think I have narrowed to to two both msd.
Have stock 350. I want one I can grow into or even move into a nice crate motor some day.

Any thoughts would be helpful.

One
Two

Option1: Pros:Would work well for space limitations from cramped engine compartments (engine set-back). Cons: Would be MSD only for future replacement tune-up parts. If you plan your tune-ups in advance.... no prob, but what if your out in 'timbuctoo' & need something for it.... will the local mom-n-pop parts house have what you need?

Option 2: Pros: GM based HEI is tried & true (that set-up's even better since it's brand new). Replacements parts are readily available (may not be optimized like MSD stuff but in a pinch would get you home). Cons: Size. It's traditional GM HEI size.... bulky.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

definately option 2. Space isnt really a problem with these trucks and as said before...if your ignition system decides to quit any parts store will have basic GM hei service parts to get you going again. And you wont have to bother mounting an external coil...less under hood mess.

Option #3- Look here http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...d=923&pid=1203 It's the one I have and it's very easy to upgrade. I've upgraded mine up and have had no problems whatsoever. Plus it's cheaper.

I would only go with a MSD Pro-Billet 8361 and a 6 box because that 8361 gets rid of the spark amplifier in the distrib. (one less thing to go wrong.....and they do go wrong)
