I think that is a killer looking logo but the colors of the letters blend too much. I am not to sure what the very first letter is. Maybe just cool off the black a little. But other then that...very nice.

I can tell what is says, but it takes a little work. You might want to change to a slightly easier to read font, but try to keep the style. I think it looks pretty cool.

I know, the font looks col with out all the affects but I think it's just a little hard to read. I might leave the "Hot Rod" inthe middle the same but change up to rest.

A little hard to read. I do like the Maltese cross and pistons...very West Coast Choppers inspired it seems.

After looking at some of the work on your website, I have to say keep working on it...I KNOW you can do better. You do very good work and I should know, I'm a graphic artist too!

I think the background is awesome, but I have always had difficulty reading that type of font.

I gotta disagree. It is too busy for me. Too much to look at for one time and too hard to read. For one, I think the Maltese cross is too connected with WCC and it will appear you are trying to ride their coattails.

The Maltese Cross has actually been around the biker community for a years. The reason I want to use it is the association to the RAT ROD style. But I will agree with you about people associating it with WWC. Only because of TV. People that were not into choppers and such are now all into that. You know most of those folks didn't even know who Jesse james was until they saw him on the Discovery Channel. Just goes to show the power of the media.

I agree with the comment about readability. Quick
recognition and readability are big in logo
design/brand identity.

I like the placement of Hot Rod, but I'd
work on Zumografx. You could stray from the
box stock font and design you're
own "Z". Might consider
deleting "design" and do

Zumo
Hot Rod
Grafx

Anyway, just some suggestions. I hope I'm not coming
off wrong by saying all of this.

Oh, wait, I can barely make out what my avatar says

I agree, the Maltese cross has been around along time. I remember it as a kid back in the late 60s and early 70s. But I think it got too commercialized with Discovery channel and Jesse James to be of much original use. I like the design though. It just needs to be toned down somehow.

As long as we are OT in this thread, speaking of the media, did you know the swatzika was actually an old Indian symbol that meant good luck? The was back in the late 1800s or early 1900s. After Hitler got it and the media started broadcasting it, is when it got its bad name. There is your history lesson.

I think it looks sweet.

Hard to read the actual name of the shop though, and it does look WCC-inspired

Again, OT but I had always heard that the swastika was actually a symbol originally used by Christian warriors during the Holy Crusades. I did a little research and found out that the symbol was almost universal, showing up in almost every contient, among a variety of religions and cultures, including American Indians, Vikings, Celts, Romans, Christians, Hindus, etc.

Interesting. I've read a little bit about the Crusades but do not remember seeing anything about the swastika. I did not do a great deal of research on this either obviously.
Thanks. I learned a little something new today too!

Maybe tone the swastika down so you can read the words easier.

Hey Zumo, is that your truck in your avatar? Got any more pics of it? I think it looks cool, kinda like an old 50's hot rod truck. I especially like the wide whitewalls and the red rims.

Hey Zumo, nice start. Just some ideas that are running thru my head about your design. The first thing that comes to mind it the statement "The reason I want to use it is the association to the RAT ROD style." Now I love the rad rod style, look, and lifestyle but these guys done pay to get their rods designed. So if it where me I would move to a more streamlined "DESIGNED" look. The Maltese cross thing is just to played out. The one thing that they taught me in design school was "READABILITY, READABILITY, READABILITY". Start off and design it in just black and white with grayscales. If it looks good in black and white it will always look good in color. Ditch those fonts and work on some more non-fancy fonts. Get your point across in how you set up the font to interact with your mark. This may have all been a little harse if your plan is to build hot rods, but if you are going to design them (put your ideas and thoughts down on paper or screen) then I think that you need to reflect that. I know that you do a lot of photoshop work (I have been to your site quite a few times) I know that you photoshop as well. So if you are going to design vehicles that throw something out there that will represent what you DO. I dont know. I think I might be rambling now. Anyway good start. Oh yeah, always start on paper if at all possible and then use the computer as your tool to produce you idea. Sometime when you sit infront of these things you can become a slave to their lack of creativity. Oh yeah and by the way I am the Design Director in our art Department so just take my babblings for what they are worth. Getting off my soap box.

Wow I think this is my longest post here ever.

Later
Carter

No no, not rambling at all. I have not had any formal training besides art classes in High school, and that was 12 years ago. My plan is an "In the long run.." I still need to learn how to draw perspective drawings and all that or really just practice more. I am going to start school this spring hopefully but I can not afford to go to a design school so I'll be attending my local community college to work toward a design degree. Right now I am the graphic artist for the Marketing Dept for a large insurance company. Thanks for the advice that is what I am looking for.
