Stupid newbie question
Here it is, the stupid newbie question of the week.
I just bought a 71 C10 4x4. This thing is a definate fixer. Alot is missing. There are two square holes (one on each side) located behind the cab on the bed. It look as if some sort of dual gas tanks may belong here. Anyways, the tanks are missing, the small doors are missing, and I would like to make it at least look stock. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Welcome to the board. They were probably for auxilary fuel tanks. The lever for them should be on the floor, driver's side. good Luck, show us some pictures if you can!

Welcome from Seattle...if you are ever up this way I have twin auxilliary fuel tanks waiting for your truck...FREE, NO CHARGE, NADA!!!!!!!!! Most guys that are building hot rods pull them. If you are doing a complete resto...these have your name all over them! Truth be told, you could probably find some closer that are the same price!
Come to think about it. Since full stock restorations usually bring the highest resale price...maybe I should hang on to them...NOT!

You're in luck
I just pulled off a complete set off my 71 K10 4x4. I bought a bed from Jerry's friend and got rid of my bed with the aux fuel tanks. The guy that took my original bed didn't want the tanks so I removed them. These tanks were on my truck and being used, I had gasoline in them which I just dumped back into my behind the seat tank. So these are not some old tanks that have just been sitting and full of gunk.
Comes with 2 matching side saddle tanks (the heavy duty dealer installed ones with caps of course, 2 doors with locks and key that go on the bedsides (good shape and can be polished), the fuel selector valve that mounts in the cab, all fuel lines intact with clamps. All you'll nead are 4- 14" long bolts/nuts/washers, install the selector valve (you should have a hole next to the drivers seat), clamp on the hoses, and you're done. No cutting or modifying of your fuel lines. I just removed these last Friday. You pick up in Pittsburg, CA for $60. I may be able to meet you half way depending how far you are. If you are too far to see them right away, I'll try to take pics.

PICTURES of tanks
Here are the pics. Upon further inspection of the fuel lines, they should be replaced as they are getting brittle but that should be easy.

Burnsman...He hasn't responded to any of my messages. I'll give him a couple more days. Then maybe I'll separate the doors.

Doors
Burnsman...Big Block Fan hasn't responded, so if you still want the doors, how about $20 (shipping included). There is only one key, but it works on both locks.

Doors
Gas doors sold to Burnsman.
If anyone needs the tanks/tank parts or selector valve let me know. I may cut the tanks open and use them as toolboxes if no one wants them. |
