67-71 vs. 72 BB Frame Towers

What's the difference between the 67-71 and 72 BB frame towers? Besides the fact that the 72 are way more expensive. I have a 72 with a 454. The PO cut and welded the small block towers to get them to fit. I'd like to buy the correct ones, but don't want to pay top dollar if I don't have to.

So it's only a hood clearance issue then, or is there other things involved?
