ot: can someone help me decode a cj7 engine?
my old man just bought a real nice cj7, the owner said it isnt the original 6, the code on the block is 701c05, any help would be great, thanks guys

what year is it? most likely, you're looking at an AMC 258. I don't have the number with me, but that's pretty much the only inline 6 I can think of. V-6's are 225 buicks. Tell him to keep the 258, they're wonderful motors, and, IMO, the best motor I've owned.

Wasn't there a 232ci I6 that they used in the Jeeps? I know that they used the 258 all the way up into the YJ model.
I agree with Shorty, the 258's are slick little powerhouses. There are all sorts of aftermarket parts for them, you can make stroker motors out of them that are really really mean!!! They don't rev all that high (I never took mine above 4500, and it didn't like going above that anyway), and they pull hard from 500-4000 (yep 500).
