off topic Chevy van g20

Sorry to ask an off topic question but I know that some of you own a Chevy van and I would like to know a few things about them.

My brother wants to buy a '89 Chevy van G20 and he has asked me to have a look at it. I do know the general stuff about cars but what are the specific things I have to look for when judging the van. Things like for example the rocker panels in our trucks.

keep in mind that the chassis and drivetrain are practically identical to a C10 truck.

What engine will most likely be in the van a 305 or a 350? How can you tell them apart?

Probably a 305. My 87 and 92 vans both have 305's.

Oh, and to tell them apart, look at the rear of the engine, drivers side right behind the head. It will say either 5.7 or 5.0.

Thanks for the info you all.

We saw it yesterday; it was a real nice Van with a fairly new 350 Goodwrench engine (20.000 kilometers). It looked real nice, no rust, just one small dent and it was priced at a real bargain (€ 6.000 about $ 7.500). But we were the second in line to take a look at it. The first one took it for a test-drive of 2,5 hours, we had to wait until he got back just to hear that he was buying it at € 5.500 ($6.750). To bad, my brother was very disappointed. Hopefully better luck next time.
