Image Hosting

What does everyone use for free image hosting, where you can post the actual pic here and not just a link? My old site is charging now.

This site usually allows you to attach pictures, but sometimes that function is turned off. I am not sure what most folks use, because I have my own site to host pics on, but I think many of them use imagestation. If the photo follows a message that says "soandso attached the following photo" or whatever, it is one that is being hosted by this site.

To find out what people are using outside this site, right click their posted photos and click "properties." It will show the address of the pic which will tell you who is hosting it.

Usually your ISP (whoever you pay for internet access) provides you with hosting space automatically. That is another thing to look into. Chances are you are paying for it, so you might as well use it.

Try www.imagestation.com If you want a free online album, this is the best I have found. Click on the link in my sig below to go to one of my albums. Two good things about them is it's free, and they don't spam ya...

I have a webshots account too, but they change the url to your pics every other week. If you have a sig pic hosted there, you have to get a fresh url and update your sig pic...

I use the web server space allocated to me with my ISP. Of course, there's been an upload glitch lately...

But, overall, that's how I've been doing it the last couple of years. I've already paid for the space and bandwidth. Most ISPs offer this, but many folks don't realize it. You'll need an FTP program to upload via FTP (File Transfer Protocol), but there are freeware versions out there like the FTP Commander that I use...

I personally prefer Smart-FTP, excellent program! Free for personal use, but it will have a popup asking you to register it at times.

Try downloading irfanview from www.irfaniew.com. It is an excellent FREE application that will let you resize your photo. It is very easy to use. Try resizing it to 640X480. I suggest you resize it, then upload it to the same directory with the same name so that everyone who looks at this page does not have to load that enormous photo of your truck.

I use SmartFTP or, for quick uploads, Internet Explorer. It is already on every indows computer, and does the job just fine.

WS FTP works well, but has one of the least intuitive interfaces I have ever seen. I started out with it years ago, and replaced it ASAP!

try leechftp, cheap and easy..and it works good too.

As for pic hosting, I have my own server with gigs of drive space, I can host as much pics as i like. Only problem is the damned thing craps out every now & then.

Thanks Blue Beard. You would think that I would be able to type it right as many times as I have recommended it. At least I didn't accidentally link to a porn site or anything. You never know what you'll get when you type a URL incorrectly.

I have always maintained that my fingers are not attached to my brain...
