need help with pwr steering conversion fast

i started converting my 68 to power steering and ran into a few problems. first, the rag joint is a different size on the pwr box. obviously there is 2 sizes, right? also, what is the easiest way to get the column to collaps? the pwr box is longer and my column doesn`t want to give much. how much shorter does it need to be? finally, when i positioned the new box up on the frame, the front bumper bracket seems to be in the way. is there a different bracket or what? the power box is off of a 71 so i figured it would be a bolt on deal but it hasen`t been so easy. any help would be great. thanks

Your front drivers side outside bumper bracket may be for 67-68 non-ps trucks, they are not dimpled for the different Power steering box .. they are dimpled to allow clearance of the ps box. You could get away with using a ps type front outside bumper bracket from 67-72 gmc or a 67-70 chev 2wd putside bumper bracket. You could leave the outside bumper bracket off till you got one.

rag joint size should be the same PS or not.

collasable mid column shafts will collapse... there is a 67 version that dosent collapse..maybe you have that.... the shafts collapse pretty easy... even pounding it from the bottom while its still mounted will collapse the shaft... basically there are two plastic shear pins in the collapsable shaft

You shouldn't have to colapce the steering shaft. I have converted many 67-68 trucks with the single piece steering columns to power steering using the power steering gears and have not had to colapce any of them. The rag joint assemblies are different for the power steering gears and yes I do have Genuine GM ones in stock. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

If you look at the input shaft on the manual gear you will see that it is longer than the one on the power steering gear. The overall length of the two gears are the same.... WES

the box is from a 71 1/2 ton just like my 68. Wes, the power box input on mine is longer than the manual one. i put the box up where it needs to be and the shaft was way to long. i got it to move some but not enough yet. i got to keep working on it. how much do you sell the rag joints for? got any used bumper brackets for pwr steering?
