Post What kind of motor do i have

hey guys i know there is site i can check this but i have forgotten it so if one of you could decode the number i would greatly appreciate it. I got this on the back of the block on the drivers side.

That # is either a 350 or 327..you need the # from front of passenger head to decode any deeper info..

all we can really tell you- without the stamping code off the front- is that its a 69-79 block and is 4 bolt if its a truck block(stamping code wil tell you that much)

the pad to look for and clean off is just above the timing cover

3970010 is for sure a 4 " bore....as far as 4 bolt main,chevy did some different stuff through the 70s. A 3/4 ton ,or a 4x4 should be a 4 bolt,but a 1/2 ton is a story of its own..........69 longhorn

My book show's it as 67-76 350 or a 302 came in 2 or 4 bolt mains.

thanks guys for the info the guy i got the motor from said it came out an early 70's el camino so he might have been right it sounds like, well i will check the numbers by the timing cover tomm, and hopefully will give some more info. i will post the numbers i find.
