Picking up New truck on Tuesday!!!
My bank called saying my loan has been approved and the check will be available on Tuesday. I contacted the seller and have made arrangements to get my new 71' two wheel drive SWB Tuesday evening! I can't wait. The truck is in primer and ready to paint. I have found a painter and the 71' is going there Wednesday morning. Question.....What Color???? I'm thinkin I want to paint it solid Hugger Orange.....or should it be Torch Red.....or maybe Millenium Yellow. Decisions, decisions, guesss I"ll know when I get to the paint shop. What do you guys think? My plan was to paint the 72' K-10 Hugger Orange w/ a white top. Is it lame that I would also have a 2wd SWB in Hugger Orange??? I also have an Orange Prowler. Guess I'm stuck on Orange cars and trucks...opinions from the pros????

Orange is fine--take a look at "Tangerine" used on 90's Mustangs. Orange and white is fine, Red is fine Green is fine---Yellow??? Yellow is for school buses! Blue is for baby blankets!

We are all certainly entitled to our opinions, I just don't believe these colors do justice to our trucks--yellow in particular. I'm not trying to pick a fight here and painting your truck a certain color is your birthright in America, but does it make sense to use a color that detracts from the vehicles lines and resale value? A board member listed his yellow truck here for sale a few days ago and couldn't even get an offer on what appeared to me to be a $4-5,000 truck in a good color. He was asking $3,000.
A new paint job is just too expensive in my opinion to ignore this. For those of you that have recently bought a restored truck, ask yourself-"would I have paid as much for a yellow truck?" Or if the truck was yellow-"would you have paid more for a nicer color?" I'm off the soapbox now--have a nice day

How about OCHRE
Most people don't like it buit i love it, lol. Anyway, red is way overdone on these trucks IMO. No offense to any members with red trucks, but it seems like 25-30% of the trucks i see are red. Orange looks sweet, but a little variety would be nice. I have a sicko thing for the one-off colors that came on these trucks, Ochre of course being my favorite, then Medium Olive and the mint-light green color of alot of '67's and '68's. Bright yellow looks good too. If it were mine, i would look for the original color in the door jambs, firewall, underdash, and whatnot and paint it a close match to that color.

Blue is for baby blankets? Man, now I'm bummed. I just picked up the Marina Blue paint for my Chevelle! Whenever I get around to painting the Longhorn, I'm just going to do it in white. But it ain't for sale anyway.

I think I like the Hugger a little more than the Tangier, but man that cobalt blue is nice!

Good thing we all like diffrent colors, or we would have a harder time finding our trucks in the parking lot. I turn 41 this year I might need to start doing that tennis ball on the antenna trick to find mine.

I agree with smitty62 on one point
"but does it make sense to use a color that detracts from the vehicles lines " I think darker colors help hide the panel line/gaps like the rockers, cowl ect. I think the lighter colors bring you eye to those gaps and detract from the BEAUTIFUL body lines of a 67-72 truck- again JMO Try something new Go Blue!!!! Diane |
