700R4 Transmission mount

Hey All,
I'm installing an engine (350) and trans (700R4) out of an 1985 Chevy Suburban into my 1970 Chevy. I got everything sitting in the frame right now loose. How level should the combination be? Right now it is sitting lower at the rear. I think it might be too low. Can I use the original trans mount? I know I need to move it from where it was. I looked around the web and I found a custom 700R4 mount for around $180. I'm handy with a torch and wire feed welder and I should be able to modify mine whether I need to go up or down.

Anyone ever done this?
MJ

you don't need anything special just the auto crossmember for the 70truck and a regular tranny mount (i used a pro-thane @ $25) the crossmember has to be in the backholes in the frame rails simple bolt in no torch or welding required

cdowns.
Thanks. I guess I did not notice another set of mounting holes on the frame. I'll have to take a look at the again.

You just might have clarified another problem I was having. I was using the towers from the 85 Suburban because I like the newer style motor mounts, but they weren't lining up worth crap. I think I can use them, but I will have to drill new holes and a spacer between the top of the mount and frame. The frame on the 70 is about a half inch shorter than the 85 frame. I didn't try the 70 mounts and brackets yet. I'll give that a try the next time I get to the shop.

One thing I forgot to add. The reason I was going with the later model mounts is because I switched the front crossmember to one out of a 1978 Chevy Suburban. I wanted the disc brakes out of it. Everything is bolting up pretty decent so far.
