Powermaster is supposed to be a good brand. That's what I'm getting. Puts out good idle amps. Not sure what # to get though.

Jon I got mine for $120 for a 120 amp chrome here in town. Txstruck and I both have some from the guy and have had excellent luck with them. If you want a chrome one let me know and I'll give you his info.

I recently bought a Summit 100 amp chrome alternator for $99 bucks. It's a one wire hookup and a breeze to install, works great.

Part number 10463397 94 amps
I bought mine on ebay for only $35!! Brand new too. Some guys bought bough two while trouble shooting. Later he found the problem didn't need it. He could not return it because he lost the receipt. My gain!! I love the extra amps. Windows roll up faster and the lights don't flicker when the 12" thumpers get going.

GM LIST: $211.25
OUR PRICE: $105.63 www.gmpartsdirect.com
Visit your local parts store. You can probably find it for a similiar price.

You can find some pretty good deals on ebay on chrome or non chrome in 100 amp

Ive got one of then alternators off a 85 trans am on my 68 and its 94 amp

Jc whitney sells an "iceberg" kit for the 63 up alternators to convert them to 105 amp i dont know how well they work but it comes with a new stator diodes and brushes so it sounds like a basic rebuild kit with a larger amp stator

As i recall they are about 30 bucks. www.jcwhitney.com

88 R20 burbs came factory with 105 AMP delco's.

PO of my truck liked his pressure washer and hit it hot one time just before I bought it cracking the diode's.

Had it rebuilt by the local guy. Watched him test it. He ran it up to 100 amps for a bout 5 minutes on his test rig and got it good an hot. Didn't miss a beat. Been great ever since and I have a lot of power demand. 440 watts on high beams when the Hella's are on. I also have a travel trailer and the battery on it charges when plugged int othe truck. No problems.
I did some stuff to help with voltage drop inlucing running a second ground straight from the battery to the fire wall. My truck had a wire right off the alternator to the battery instead of down to the starter then the battery and that helps as well.

Isnt that serpentine belt setup though? Or could you just change out the pulley on the alternator for the v belt one?

The 84-86 Camaro had the V-belt option. If you find one from that year you can swap pulleys too.

Nope. 89 was first year for that on 454. It did run a flat belt on the alternator BUT you can swap a V belp pulley on it without a problem. Or you can put the flat belt pully for the alternator onthe crank and water pump. The V belt for the Power steering and A/C would stay the same. On a older 454 like 82-86.
