Looking For Information/Help
Hello, this forum is NEW to me. I am looking for ANY information on the following vehicle. 1968 CST, has FACTORY bucket seats, console,, carpet, tinted glass (Soft Ray), A/C, PS, guages including tachometer, 3-spd Auto. The VIN indicates the truck is a V8, and of course I can see that, how do I tell what the displacement/hp is. I've been told the truck is "1 in 400" made, that is a 300HP/327. My uncle was the second owner, he bought in late 1968 or early 1969. Truck is in "restorable" condition, would like the above information as I consider purchase from his estate. Thank You

Welcome to the board, sounds like a cool truck. (It wouldn't happen to be gold and white with a gold and white seat color combo would it?)
One in 400 would be just speculation in reality, but a cool desirable truck none the less. |

First of all Welcome to the Best board on the WEb Sounds like a nice truck There are a lot of 68 fans on this board. All of the factory specs I find listed the 327 V/8's for 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton to be 220 H/P Some of the larger Big block 396 V/8's were rated at 310 h/p Anything is possible though. Back in 1968 the dealers were a lot more accommodating when it came to stuff like that. Take a pic of the glove box data sheet and post it here and you will find out a lot more.

Thanks for the Responses, Keep them coming!
To ALL that have responded, THANKS. I will get that engine identification information, and that info from the glove box. Truck is factory "blue", inside and out, what was called Marina Blue on the late 60 Chevelles, Novas, and full size Chevrolet cars. Not sure if that is the exact color, but close. Truck is about 100 miles (one way) from me, hope to get by there this weekend to get the above mentioned information.
Another question, WHAT IS THE BEST SOURCE to determine value, aside from my sentimental value?? Truck has 137K on the odometer, I know for a fact no major engine work, transmission, ditto. Truck was involved in rear end collision, ~10 yrs back, with tailgate, passeger side bed segment replaced, same side door, and front fender painted. The rest of the truck has factory paint. There is slight damage to that same passenger fender side, Uncle backed it into the garage just a few months back. I can see no "cancerous" rust. Will post some pictures early next week. Again, Thanks to All! |

Here is a site to check paint codes: 1968 Blue's are codes 506, 507 and 508 Sounds like 506 to me. http://www.paintscratch.com Some of the rare options for 1968 were: Factory three point seat belts Am/Fm Radio The 67,68 buckets with the padded buddy seat. Sound like a sweet truck Value is what it is worth to you.

The wood was optional...listed there as 4E81AB PICK-UP BOX FLOOR*. The Eq is nothing more than equipped. They were kinda funny back then huh?
This sounds like an outstanding list. The CST was the top of the line option package in 68, and you have some very desirable/rare options on top of that like the tach, wood bed floor, and bucket seats. Some of the Not so rare options there that are still very desirable include the front stabilizer and 327...of course the power steering and brakes are a good addition too. I would say this is a very desirable truck, but as always, it is very hard to put a price on it sight unseen. Are those hub caps still on there/ They seem to bring a good price. |
