Question How to tell year

How can I tell what year a 67-72 is by looking at it? I know the grills are different but could somebody explain or post some pictures of what grills were for what years?

Here are a few differences that will help you identify year models
67 and 68 grills were basically the same: 67 have no side markers on front and rear fenders
69 and 70 were the same: original 70 has a different pattern from the 69 to the inside grill
71 and 72 were the same: the inside rear view mirror and there is an extra screw below the vent window on the 72 doors
1971 cab is the only year to have the embossed area for the rear view mirror mount

the 72 also had the raised plastic door panels. the 69 grill insert had horizontal lines and the 70 insert had both horiz. and vert. kinda like a mini 'egg crate' style as in the pic above.

67's have small back windows, with no side marker lights, large back windows could be ordered but are very rear. the grille is usually body colour or white with two horizontal slits with trim surrounding the holes.

69-70 chev trucks have a one piece aluminum grille with the word "chevrolet across it. The way to tell differences between 69 and 70 is that the insert on a 69 is a solid chacoal colour tooth to it, but the 70 grille has vertical split in the teeth every 4 inches. Another difference is the door panels on deluxe models on 70 trucks have a wood grain panel on top.
71 and 72s have an aluminum grille surround with a plastic mesh insert. 71 is the first year for five lug wheels and disc brakes. 72 chevys have the rear view mirror glued to the windshield and one piece plastic door panels as a opposed to the 71 chev having the rear view mirror attached to the roof and the same door panels as the 70 chev

Also the 67-68 have a choke knob on the dash and hand operated e- brake
72 chevys have vents in the doors for cabin pressure relief and the 71-72 also have the park lights in the bumper

Hey mine has cabin pressure relief ,but it is mainly coming through the rockers and floor rust holes. So I guess it is a 70/72 with this option !LoL I kill Me !

Rust is optional but is generally difficult to find outside the rustbelt. You can install this option by adding salt and moisture to body and let sit for say, several years or so.
I have plenty of road salt sitting in my garage if anybody would like some shipped (sorry I don't think that table salt will be as affective). Will trade salt for good body parts.

Another difference for 72 is interior options. Door panels and arm rests were different, and are plastic. Rust is normal on rockers. Most people when restoring or fixing get new rocker pannel body parts and weld them on after cutting of the old rusted ones.

The guys have outlined what grilles came from what years from the factory, but be foreward... Just because it has a certain year front clip on it, doesn't mean that it came that way from the factory.

You'll see alot of trucks with different front clips on 'em if your surfin ebay auctions.

Some people have even put GMC front ends on a Chevy

The area around where the rear view mirror is raised in order to provide more support. This was a 71 only item only the next year GM returned to a flat panel and added the windshield mounted mirror.
Here is a pic of my 71, I understand that the mirror is incorrect for the 71 model but it will demonstrate what I am referring to.

Also keep in mind that since the interior door panels are different on the '72 than previous models, the door handle relay and the window regulator are different. The post the handles attach to is longer. The previous years will not interchange correctly.
