what is a carrier?
what is a carrier in a rear end. i know my 12 bolt has a 3 series carrier because it has 3.07 open gears so if i want to switch to 3.73 i need aftermarket ones to fit a 3 series carrier. but what actauly is the carrier? is it part of the spider assembly in the center of the ring gear or what??? basically reason i want to know is if i take out the spider assembly crap and go to a mini spool do i still have a 3 series carrier and need 3 series 3.73 r&p?

The carrier is the large rotating assembly in the rear end. The ring gear bolts to it, and the spider gears, cross shaft, and side gears are all "carried" within the carrier. Removing the spiders and using a mini_spool, leaves you with the came carrier.

A mini spool replaces the spider gear assembly. A spool replaces the carrier. I personally wouldn't recommend either on a strickly street driven vehicle.
In addition, mini spools are typically not recommended for high horsepower applications. Edit: Plus, who makes a mini spool for a truck application?
