Anyone running a '88 & newer fuel injected engine in their trucks?
Anyone running a '88 & newer fuel injected engine in their trucks?
I'm thinking of these as the throttle body setup would seem to be an easy install. I would love an LT1 or even an LS1 but funds do not permit it. I have looked in the local papers, and found I can buy an entire, running '88 or '89 pickup with AC for under $1000. The body will be shot, but hopefully the engine & trans should be ok. Any pics, tips, or ideas here? Reid

i`ve thought about it too but i would look for a 96 and up vortec motor. they are more powerfull than the earlier tbi motors and just as easy to set up.

Ya, that would be sweet. I once had a '96 with a vortec 454 in it. I added a Hypertech power programmer. Damn, did that thing fly.
But again, the price of that setup would easily be double. I think I am going to try and keep it on the cheap side. I really don't need alot of power. But want a good reliable, somewhat fuel efficient ride. I already have a couple of high horsepower rides, so I'm trying to keep it sane this time. |

you can get a 5.7 or a 5.0 complete for pretty decent money. it might be more than the tbi but cheaper than the lt1. i had a 5.0 in my 99 x-cab and it was pretty impressive for a 305. it had a 3.73 rear end so that helped some but it was faster than the 75 gmc with a 92 tbi motor with a cam and carb i traded in. a vortec 454 would be cool but for a daily driver , a small block would be fine with me. i have alot more stuff to do to my 70 to get it on the road right now to worrie about a motor but i am seriously thinking of a 5.0 or 5.7 vortec.

I've been toying with the idea of swapping in a L98 (TPI 350). They have a ton of low end torque and should be relatively cheap. I'm a little more picky though, and want an 87-89. They changed them slightly through the years, and these years will fit my needs. Oh, and I'll get the 700R4 that goes with it
