that is what i'm finding out, is there a bracket that is off the top of the radio? does it clip on, or have a screw on it?

And yes, it is an ac cab.

Just replaced mine 2 weeks ago. Took out the glove box (distroyed it on the way out, $6 for a new one) removed the a/c hoses (again, wrecked 'em $30 for new ones). One screw holds it in place, slides out the side. New speaker is about $30. But now I can hear the talk radio station and the Mexican Uhm Pah Pah.

Picture. Only one bolt holds speaker to bracket. Piece of cake(with the glove box out), otherwise a couple of universal joints on you arm and maybe a stuby gearwrench.

When I replaced my stock speaker I had to modify the mounting bracket that came with the speaker or the speaker would hit the back of the radio. Not a big deal, but FYI. I got the dual speaker LMC ( I thinK) sells that is made to replace the original.

hey mike sorry to bring up a dead thread but when i had my 67 a mechanic wanted the radio for his water truck. he had the LMC dual speakers and he said that the speakers blew the radios that he tried on them. so i bought the speakers for really cheap and now either the radio in my 72 or the speakers are bad so im tearing into them and im guna try the new speakers from LMC first and see if they work. then ill try the yard sale radio i got and see if that works. but how did ur speakers from LMC work for you?

Chad,

It may be a while before you get an answer from him. He hasn't been on the board since 3-31-2011. Then again you may get a reply from another board member that has one....

Re: stock am radio speaker removal?

Digging up this old thread because I'm in the process of installing the dual-speaker LMC front speakers, kick panel speakers, and Custom Autosound radio.

I still have the instrument cluster out, but its not much help. I'm going to go pull the glovebox, which will probably wreck it, but it looks like my only shot. It's an AC cab, of course (otherwise it'd be easy!).

Any tips on R&R'ing the radio and speaker would be welcome, as I'm afraid my hands and forearms are going to look like I've been bathing cats when this is over...

hey davepl i put some dual LMC under dash mounted speakers in an old speaker box i had and just put it on the seat cause the mounting bracket didnt line up (i had everything out except the radio and i dont have ac and i could barely even get the old speaker out so have fun!) and frankly i wasnt impressed with the sound. then i hooked up some 6in alpines in the plastic door panel cause there were some blown speakers in there already. it sounds good but it makes the doors rattle when i play some songs so i wouldnt recomend that. then i got one of those 30 doller speaker boxes from walmart and some guy had put a deck inside the box and that thing is LOUD! and it sounds good too. and now that i have racing seats in my pickup i just put the speaker box between the 2 seats and its all good. best of luck to you
