Rake
Does anybody like the rake look, lowering like 3" in the front and none in the back. I personally like it and have been thinking about it. Just wanted somemore opinions.

I can take a little rake... not much though. Due to the existance of saggy springs, my truck sits just shy of being level, and I like it. I never haul anything with it so that isn't a problem. I wouldn't mind my front being 1-2" lower (but I would still like to drop the rear another inch too)
But there is a point where there is too much...

I think a slight rake looks killer on most cars....makes em look more aggressive...but i do mean slight...like N2TRUX said 1-2"....now if your rake is 8" cause your trying to clear a set of 13" offset gold plated non-knock off spoke wheels on a dodge neon......then your just a dumb@ss....

personally, I'm a strong advodate for a level stance, 1" rake at the most. I think real big rakes kinda look hillbilly, like when someone wants to fit fat tires on their car, but doesn't want to go to the work to tuck them into the fenders. Just my opinion

I like it. Until I get some lowered leaves, I'll have the 3.5 or 4" drop in front and none in back. That kind of extreme will probably make me pull out a few leaves before then, though.

I think a couple inches looks coool, but much past that is kinda goofy to me. Don't like the a$$ draggin' look either!!!

It kinda sits level now, The back really isn't all that high. It's a short bed so it would sit like a dragster. I'll have to look at it little more 1st.

That looks pretty good! My brother had a '93 I think that might have been around 1 inch lower than that, it looked nice going down the road as well as parked!

Think about the steering geometry for a minute. And NO, geometry shouldn't be a four-letter word!
The angle of the kingpin axis is crucial for proper steering feel, return to zero, turning effort, and tire ware! Any change in the "rake" from stock and you are changing the kingpin axis angle with respect to level ground. Your drop spindles should take this into consideration. If not, your steering could suffer and your tire ware could go to sh**! Think of it this way: If you hang a door in your house and you do a great job getting the jamb exactly Plumb and square, the door works great. If you are a little out of plumb, the door will swing a little by itself. This is part of how your tires return to straigh ahead when you let go of the wheel. Now if you start tipping your whole house, everything goes out of plumb and that door is really going to swing. At the extreme, if you keep adding rake your tires will swing in-and-out at the top/bottom like a trash bin lid at McD's. But in all things, there is no free lunch. If you get some dropped spindles that adjust for the new kingpin axis angle, other parts of the steering geometry are affected - possibly turning radii, Ackerman angles, etc. Do you need to worry about this? In most cases, no. But recall, for every action there is a reaction and if the action is BIG.... Just my 2cw. -dch |

here's the rake of my truck before it got lowered... I really liked the look of it, the small tires on the front may have helped a little 235/60/15

On a 73-87 C10, the amount of rake that looks best, is when all your fenderwell lips are the same height from the ground (say 28") this in effect will make the front end SLIGHTLY lower than the back, because the front fenderwell lips are cut 1-2" higher than the rears.

Thats my orange 69 truck in the picture. It's 4.5 front and 4 inch rear lowered.
That truck has ECE 2.5 inch spindles and 2 inch Summit brand springs for 73-87 trucks in the front and a set of ECE 4 inch rear springs. The other truck (in my signature) is lowered to pretty much level and I don't really like it. It is going to get a rake as soon as I see what the 6 cylinder to big block swap does to the stance.
