No high range in T/C?

I have an 86 c-10 4X4 M/T that I can only get into 4 low. Any common causes for this. Also I was wondering what tranny and T/C should be under there for that year. I don't hane any literature on this truck at the time. Thanks for the help.

Should be a NP208 part time transfer case. Can you shift it into 4 hi or 2 hi? Or will the shifter not move? If it does move check to see if the linkeage is disconnected.

I second that.. Should be
tranny- 700r4
transfercase- np208 part time

You say you can get it to 4lo but not hi??
Is always stuck in 4 lo, because if your able to shift back from 2hi and just doesn't engage or stay in 4 hi, you need to check the linkage.. If it is off a little bit they will not engage or stay engaged in 4 hi..
If it isn't even coming out of 4lo to shift forward in 2hi at anytime and the linkage is fine. Then you may have internal problems..High miles on the transfercase strech the chain inside and makes evry other componant in there not work properly...

Hope this helps.
